Suspect Sought In Park Beating

Spokane police are asking for help in identifying a man who assaulted another man in People’s Park last Saturday night, threw him into a campfire, then tried to drown him in Latah Creek.

The victim told police several people had been camping and drinking in the park when an argument broke out between him and the suspect. He told police the man hit him, then threw him in the fire, causing serious burns to one arm and side.

Witnesses told police the victim went to the water to extinguish smoldering coals on his clothes and the suspect rushed at him, holding his head underwater.

Four people pulled the suspect from the victim. He was treated and released at an area hospital.

The suspect is described as white, about 25 years old, 6-foot-2, with an average build. He had a nearly shaved head and a Vandyke beard.
