Detour For Repairs
Centennial Trail
Users of the Spokane River Centennial Trail will have to endure a detour near Barker Road for at least until late this month while crews shore up the trail bed to protect it from flooding and erosion.
The work is being done between trail miles 7 and 8 between Flora and Barker roads. The detour routes trail users to Fora, Montgomery and Riverway - a bummer for inline skaters, but not much problem for hikers and bikers.
The major danger area in the detour is crossing Barker Road.
AT&T crews, which are doing the heavy equipment work since their cable lines run under the trail, plan to be finished by the end of August.
“The trail will be reopened temporarily, but Spokane County may have to close it again in the fall to complete paving and landscape work,” said Dennis Felton, Riverside State Park’s Centennial Trail manager.
