Letters To The Editor

Auto coverage is the pits

As I read through the sports pages every day, I see articles about tennis, baseball, football and golf from all over the world. What I do not see, or very rarely see, is motorsports coverage. Myself and many people I know are very interested in racing of all kinds. Winston Cup, Busch, motocross and drag racing results would be a fine addition to the sports page.

I saw articles on the Tri-Cities boat races (July 30-31), but nothing on the Northwest National drag races in Seattle the same weekend.

There are many fans who would love to read about these events and stay informed on current points standings. Just because your sports editor may not like motorsports, doesn’t mean other people don’t.

You should be more broad in your sports coverage. Also, your coverage of boxing events leaves a lot to be desired. Not everyone out here plays with balls. Howard Duhaime Spokane

Just another spoiled athlete

I really do not understand these hot-shot rookies and their agents. These athletes come out of college thinking they are God’s gift to sports. The agents feed on this and blow smoke in order to get the athlete to sign with them. You know the drill.

The rookie may have proved himself in college, but not in the professional sports world. Take a good look at Ryan Leaf, Brian Bosworth and others. They and their agents rip teams out of big money and disappoint the fans.

Now we have to live with Seahawks’ No. 1 pick Chris McIntosh and his phony agent. Other than his college record, we know nothing of him. He sounds like another Brian Bosworth to me. Many people with college degrees cannot get jobs, much less a job with the opportunities professional athletes have. Even the minimum wage these players make is a lifetime dream of others. Chris McIntosh should be thankful he was drafted by a team with a good coach, a good front office and a good owner. He should be out on the field helping the team who gave him this opportunity, proving he knows how to play football in the fast lane. Or is he just another Ryan Leaf? Lloyd L. Zimmerman Spokane
