Library Hours Back On Agenda

The Spokane City Council will tackle a number of issues tonight that it has deferred over the last few weeks.

Among them is whether the Spokane Public Library should receive $121,300 in state funds granted to the city to offset cuts from I-695. The funds would be used to restore Saturday hours at the library.

Some council members have said they are reluctant to provide funding this year without assurances that there will be money for next year’s budget without belt tightening from the library board.

Other deferred items on the agenda are the establishment of the internal auditor position and the allocation of $45,000 to fund the new office, and the expansion of the multifamily housing tax credit for areas in the Riverside and Peaceful Valley neighborhoods.

The council also will vote on extending a billboard moratorium.

The council holds a briefing session at 3:30 p.m. and its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Both sessions are in the council chambers at City Hall and are shown live on CityCable 5.
