East Sprague Cinemas Closes

From Staff

The last tub of popcorn was popped at East Sprague Cinemas last week.

Regal Cinemas, which owns the theater, closed it on Friday as part of an effort to consolidate its local theater holdings.

In June, the company sold the Lyons Theater on Spokane’s North Side and signed a deal to sell the Fox Theater to the Spokane Symphony.

Dick Westerling, Regal Cinemas’ senior vice president of marketing, said at the time that the company was trying to sell its outdated East Sprague and North Division theaters.

In 1997, Act III - which Regal Cinemas bought in 1998 - opened a 12-screen theater at the Spokane Valley Mall. Regal Cinemas is scheduled to open another 12-screen multiplex at NorthTown in September.
