Shonna Clark Attends Science Camp

Shonna Clark, a 2000 graduate of Sandpoint High School, was selected as a delegate to represent Idaho at the National Youth Science Camp held recently in Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia.

Clark, who plans to study science at University of Idaho this fall, attended the camp with 94 other high school graduates from across the nation.

Delegates took part in lecture topics which included biomechanics, the human genome project, rain forests and neurobiology. They also participated in recreational programs such as kayaking, mountain biking, cave exploring, tai chi, pottery, swing dancing and philosophy, science and religious discussions.

Heather Wise, a 1993 Kellogg High School graduate, recently earned a bachelor of medical science in physician assistant studies from the College of Health Sciences at Midwestern University in Glendale, Ariz.

Wise received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Idaho in 1997. She is the daughter of Sue and Jerry Wise of Kellogg. She plans to use her new degree in working with pediatric and primary care patients in the Northwest.

Local University of Idaho education students recently won awards and recognition in Idaho Public Television’s National Teacher Training Institute 2000.

The students prepared lesson plans for K-12 classrooms using Idaho PTV resources while enrolled in methods and strategy courses. The training was incorporated into classroom instruction by education professors and was the only NTTI site nationally to merge the training into a university program.

Students received $50, videos and teacher guides and a lesson plan binder.

Winning students and their hometowns are: Deanne Clifford, Coeur d’Alene; Christopher Hiatt, Hayden Lake; John Vogel, Rathdrum; Beth Artner, Sandpoint; and Judy Butts, Celia Doerann-George, Susan Finlay, Nate Hespelt, Jeannine Korus, Matt O’Brien, and Robin Schwartz, all of Moscow.

Leah D. Patton, who lives in Coeur d’Alene with her husband, Jason Stumph, has enlisted in the Army Reserve as an administrative specialist.

Upon completion of basic and advanced individual training, Patton will become a member of the headquarters, 3rd battalion, 415th (BCT), 1 Training Brigade in Spokane.

She is a 1994 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School and the daughter of Curtis Patton of Coeur d’Alene, and Karen Patton of Mississauga, Ontario.
