Five children were arrested for breaking into a trailer in Greenacres Monday evening.

A neighbor called the Spokane Sheriff’s office at 6:45 p.m. to report a burglary in progress at a nearby mobile home.

Two 9-year-old boys, two 9-year-old girls and a 10-year-old boy allegedly crawled through a window of a mobile home in the 1500 block of North Hodges Road. Once inside, the children wrote obscenities on furniture and boxes, according to the Sheriff’s office.

Based on interviews with the children, all understood the seriousness of the break-in and that it was illegal, said Sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. David Reagan.

Deputies arrested the five children for residential burglary. All were released to their parents or guardians.
