Jim Judge Sandpoint

Funeral service for Jim E. Judge, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint.

Mr. Judge, who was born in Springfield, Idaho, died Sunday.

He took flying lessons in Santa Clara, Calif., and received his commercial pilot’s license, bought a plane and made a living giving airplane rides in different parts of the country. He met his wife, Priscilla Marriott, on one of these rides in southern Idaho. In 1935 in Salmon, Idaho, he married her.

In 1938 they moved to Morton, Idaho.

He worked at the Farragut Naval Base in Bayview, Idaho until 1944. He then repaired radio and Teletype equipment for the Civil Aeronautics Administration in Alaska. He returned to Farragut in 1946 and started teaching electrical courses at a junior college. He lived in Pocatello, Idaho, from 1949 to 1955 and taught industrial electricity at Idaho State College.

In 1955 he moved back to Morton and farmed.

Mr. Judge was a member of the Sandpoint Rotary Club, was a county chairman for eight years in the Republican Party, and was an Idaho State Committeeman for 12 years.

His wife died in 1997.

Survivors include three brothers, Glen Judge of Sagle, Idaho, Melvin Judge of Hayden, Idaho and Harold Judge of Pocatello.

Mildred Beaudry Spokane

Vigil service for Mildred S. Beaudry, 93, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Beaudry died Sunday.

She was the general manager of Kaufers Co. Christian Supply Store.

Mrs. Beaudry was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and Altar Society, the Sprague Avenue Business Group and Zonta.

Her husband, George, died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, George Beaudry of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Joan Visintainer of Spokane; a sister, Geri Farrell of Seattle; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns.

David Brown Spokane

Graveside service for R. David Brown, 77, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Brown died Friday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Gonzaga University School of Engineering.

After serving in the Navy during World War II, he worked in the family lumber business.

Survivors include his wife, Traude; six sons, Michael Brown of Spokane, Joseph Brown of Coeur d’Alene, David Brown of Puyallup, Wash., Richard Brown of Tacoma, Matthew Brown of Yuma, Ariz., and Christopher Brown of Vienna, Austria; three daughters, Barbara Cummings of Sumner, Wash., Jean Emerson of Easton, Kan., and Margaret Parker of Portsmouth, N.H.; 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Samantha (Bozanich) Michelson Cheney

Memorial service for Samantha Kathleen Scarlett (Bozanich) Michelson, 28, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Cheney. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Michelson, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident at the intersection of Division and Wabash.

She graduated in 1990 from Cheney High School and was finishing a degree in psychology at Eastern Washington University.

Survivors include a daughter, Isabeau Michelson at the home; her parents, Fred and Cheryl Bozanich of Cheney; two brothers, Fred Bozanich of Spokane and Jason Bozanich of Hayden, Idaho; and her grandfather, Mike Bozanich.

Barbara Reach Coeur d’Alene

Family service for Barbara J. Reach, 66, will be held. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reach, who died Sunday, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in San Diego.

She was a homemaker and moved to Hayden Lake in 1978.

Survivors include her mother, Helen Kolberg of San Diego; two sons, Steve Hoppe of Kamuela, Hawaii, and Dan Reach of Spokane; two daughters, Linda Lee and Kellie Burbach, both of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Shirley Ryan of San Diego; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wanda (Hall) Joyner Seattle

Memorial service for Wanda (Hall) Joyner, 74, will be held at a later date. Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Tekoa, Wash., Mrs. Joyner died Friday.

She graduated in 1944 from Tekoa High School.

She worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Co. in Tekoa before marrying Leon Joyner in 1949.

Mrs. Joyner and her husband moved to the Seattle area more than years ago. They spent summers on Hayden Lake in Idaho.

She worked as a patient advocate for Children’s Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle.

Survivors include include her husband; three sons, Craig Joyner of Edmonds, Wash., Lance Joyner of Orcas Island, Wash., and Kevin Joyner of Seattle; three sisters, Doris Edwards of Spokane, Marge Lagow of Worley, Idaho, and Elvis Burns of Seattle; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to any hospice organization.

Gilbert McGlocklin Spokane

Memorial service for Gilbert H. “Gil” McGlocklin, 89, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. McGlocklin, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Saturday.

He was raised in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he graduated from high school.

In 1934 he married Grace Wightman. They moved to Creston, British Columbia.

Mr. McGlocklin was a farmer, and worked as a deputy sheriff and dairyman during the Depression.

In 1942 his family moved to Spokane.

He went to work for Trentwood Alcoa Aluminum Plant and was a foreman on the hot line. He retired in 1972 after 30 years. Mr. McGlocklin then worked part-time as a charter bus driver for Empire Bus Lines for 14 years.

He was a member of the Spokane Valley Senior Citizens Organization.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Burnell, Gary and Calvin McGlocklin; a daughter, Marilyn; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Hubert Keltner Sandpoint

Memorial service for Hubert Wayne Keltner, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Keltner, who was born in Arcata, Calif., died Monday.

In 1942 he joined the Army. While serving in Europe he met Yvonne Neufahrt Bohm in Budingen, Germany. They were married in 1947 in Germany. When he was discharged in 1946, they moved to the San Francisco area.

Mr. Keltner received a master’s degree in political science and history from the University of Montana in Missoula.

He taught for three years at the Darby, Mont., high school and for 10 years in Libby, Mont. In 1965 he took a job teaching at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, and remained until his retirement in 1976.

In 1991 he moved to Sandpoint. He was a member of the Rotary Club and attended First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Brigitte Sanborn of Sandpoint; three grandsons, Chase and Delton Sanborn, both of Wallace, and David Sanborn of Bayview, Idaho, and a great-grandson, Logan Sanborn of Bayview.

Betty (Hughes) Proctor Colfax, Wash.

Service for Betty (Hughes) Proctor, 76, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Colfax resident, Mrs. Proctor died Monday.

She graduated in 1942 from Colfax High School.

In 1943 she married Allen “Buck” Proctor.

Mrs. Proctor was a secretary for the Department of Social and Health Services. She retired in 1985.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Pine Grove Grange.

Her husband died in 1985.

Survivors include a sister, Pearl Proctor of Colfax; and a brother, Hal Hughes of Spokane.

Dorothy (Common) Schoen Spokane

Memorial service for Dorothy Pearl (Common) Schoen, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Grand Forks, N.D., Mrs. Schoen died Monday.

In 1936 she married Bernard Schoen. They lived in North Dakota, Montana and Washington before moving to the Spokane Valley in 1949.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she worked as a secretary.

Her husband died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Carter of Hawthorne, Calif.; a son, Richard Schoen of Spokane; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. John Lightfoot Spokane

Visitation for John Marvin Lightfoot, 88, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

An 85-year Spokane resident, Mr. Lightfoot died Monday. He was born in Addy, Wash.

He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater as a T-5 rifleman. He received a Bronze Star, a Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Lightfoot was a mail carrier for the Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary; a daughter, Gayle Yeager of Spokane; a sister, Mary Steckmann of Portland; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Charles Scott Spokane

Memorial service for Charles J. Scott, 82, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Scott, who was born in Thornton, Wash., died Tuesday.

He graduated from Palouse (Wash.) High School in 1935.

Before marrying Ada Thrasher in 1940 he worked for Stapleton Motors in Palouse.

Mr. Scott served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He was trained as a pilot at Washington State College. He taught gunnery at the Mill Creek (Wash.) Gunnery Range and was later stationed in Japan where he was a construction foreman.

After the war he worked for Harms Rofinot Chevrolet, which later became Camp Chevrolet. He retired as general sales manager in 1981.

During the summers his family spent time at the Priest Lake, Idaho, cabin he built in the 1940s. He organized a square-dance club called the “Spokan-8-ers” in 1950. He also was a square dance caller and choreographer.

Mr. Scott was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the El Katif Temple.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Butler of Spokane and Charon Scott-Goldman of Vashon Island, Wash.; a brother, John Scott of Roseville, Calif.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Kurt Strenge Toledo, Ore.

Private service will be held for Kurt H. Strenge, 47. Bateman Funeral Home in Newport, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Strenge died Sunday.

He graduated from Central Valley High School.

Mr. Strenge worked as a bartender and musician.

He moved to Newport, Wash., six years ago, where he cut and sold firewood. Mr. Strenge recently moved to Toledo.

Survivors include his mother, Ruby Strenge of Spokane; and two brothers, Robert Strenge Jr. of Redmond, Wash., and Stephen Strenge of Toledo.
