Minority Populations Grow Throughout Pacific Northwest
The population of all minority groups has increased greatly in the Pacific Northwest since 1990, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures.
Here’s a look at the growth in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon:
Washington: blacks, 203,853, up 33.6 percent; Hispanics, 376,664, up 75.5 percent; Asians and Pacific Islanders, 343,690, up 59.5 percent; American Indians and Alaska Natives, 104,819, up 20.1 percent; whites, 5,103,999, up 15.7 percent.
Idaho: blacks, 7,561, up 114.9 percent; Hispanics, 93,028, up 75.8 percent; Asians and Pacific Islanders, 14,430, up 50.2 percent; American Indians and Alaska Natives, 16,656, up 11.5 percent; whites, 1,213,053, up 23.9 percent.
Montana: blacks, 3,168, up 30.7 percent; Hispanics, 16,152, up 32.7 percent; Asians and Pacific Islanders, 5,391, up 25.3 percent; American Indians and Alaska Natives, 57,225, up 18.9 percent; whites, 816,995, up 9.8 percent.
Oregon: blacks, 62,012, up 31.9 percent; Hispanics, 212,870, up 88.9 percent; Asians and Pacific Islanders, 110,015, up 56.6 percent; American Indians and Alaska Natives, 45,633, up 12.6 percent; whites, 3,098,494, up 15.4 percent.
