United Airlines canceled more than 100 flights Thursday for the second straight day in an escalation of operational turmoil it blames on its contract-seeking mechanics.

The Chrysler unit of DaimlerChrysler AG said it had recalled 769,000 minivans to reinforce loose steering wheels. The company said it had notified owners of 1993 and 1994 Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan, Plymouth Voyager and Grand Voyager and Chrysler Town & Country minivans to bring their vehicles to a dealership for free repairs.

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 876,413 Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers to replace faulty parts on the suspension system.The recall affects 1995 through 1997 models of the Explorer and the 1997 Mountaineer.
