4-Year-Old Dies In Head-On Wreck

A 4-year-old girl is dead after a car accident Friday night near Chewelah, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The child, identified as Hope L. Campbell of Colville, was a passenger in a tan 1966 Dodge driven by Colville resident Marsha T. Sanders, WSP said.

The 46-year-old woman and the girl were headed south on Highway 395 at about 6:20 p.m. when they moved into the northbound lane and collided with a pickup headed north, WSP said.

The 1979 Ford truck was driven by 18-year-old Josh N. Gray of Spokane. He wasn’t injured, WSP said.

Campbell died at the scene of massive head injuries. Sanders suffered facial fractures and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah.

She was soon transported to Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, where she was listed in stable condition Saturday afternoon.
