Larry Paulson Package Express Supervisor, Greyhound Bus Lines
Personal: 63-year-old Spokane Valley resident, two grown sons and five grandchildren.
Job duties: In charge of all package shipping and handling for Greyhound at the Spokane terminal.
Experience: Paulson has been with Greyhound 40 years. “I was here before UPS. We used to fill the buses with packages.” Before working for Greyhound, he worked on his family’s farm near Rosalia, Wash. He credits his upbringing with his never having been late for work.
Salary: About $10 an hour.
Busiest season: “No question. It’s Christmas.”
Best part of the job: “The people. I’ve always liked working with the public. If I didn’t, I would have done something else.”
Worst part of the job: None now. But when the bus depot was at First and Madison, Paulson said, the location was bad. “I’ve seen it all at work, shootings and murders.” Also, during his first 26 years on the job, he worked nearly every weekend and holiday. Now he spends the Christmas season tending to his home light show, a 10,000-bulb display.
