Seattle Folk Festival Accepting Applications

Performer applications are being accepted for the 30th annual Northwest Folklife Festival, scheduled May 25-28 at the Seattle Center.

Applications are available by calling (206) 684-7300 or e-mailing folklife@nwfolklife.org. Postmark deadline is Friday, and sample recordings are required.

The festival, held every Memorial Day weekend in Seattle, attracts more than 200,000 people and is one of the nation’s largest free festivals. For more information, visit www.nwfolklife.org.

Auditions

The Lake City Playhouse will hold auditions for “West Side Story” Monday and Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the theater, 1320 E. Garden, Coeur d’Alene.

There are roles for teens and adults. Participants should prepare a one-minute vocal audition piece (an accompanist will be provided). Come prepared to dance.

Scheduled performance dates are Feb. 2-4, 8-11, 15-18 and 22-24. For more information call (208) 667-1323.

Classes and workshops

The Lilac Studio Arts Academy will host a Holiday Ornament Workshop for children ages 5 and up, Dec. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $15, which covers all materials. The academy is located at 1104 N. Park Road, Building 3. Advance registration is required; call 927-5993.

Registration is open for Music Together classes beginning Jan. 8 at Holy Names Music Center, 3910 W. Custer Drive. The program introduces children through age 6 to music in a fun atmosphere.

Classes for the 10-week session will be offered at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Mondays, 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Tuition is $116 for the first student, $78 for each additional child from the same family.

A free parent orientation will be held at the center on Thursday at 7 p.m. A $5 early registration discount is effective through Dec. 20. Call 326-9516 for more information.
