Roland McCannon Sandpoint

Memorial service for Roland Bradley McCAnnon, 93, will be held at a later date in Spokane. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McCannon, who was born in McHenry County, Ill., died Wednesday.

He grew up in Woodstock, Ill., and attended Augustana College in Illinois.

He received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree from the University of Chicago.

He worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in Illinois.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He returned to Illinois and became the manager of a library service. He retired in 1969 and moved to Ashland, Ore.

He moved to the Sandpoint area in 1988 and was a member of the Sandpoint West Athletic Club, where he was named Member of the Month at age 86.

His wife, Lorena, preceded him in death.

Survivors inlcude a son, David McCannon of Spokane; a daughter, Phyllis Harris of East Hope, Idaho; a brother, Loren McCannon of San Diego; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Donald Williams Columbia, Mo.

Service for Donald Reed Williams, 77, was Saturday at the Parker Funeral Home in Missouri. Private burial will follow. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Williams, who was born in Grand Junction, Iowa, died last Monday.

He served as a lieutenant in the Air Force and began a printing career with the Perry Daily Chief in Perry, Mo. He moved to the Northwest and worked for the Coeur d’Alene Press and for The Spokesman-Review from 1964 to 1986 as a printer in the composing room.

Mr. Williams served as the director of the Coeur d’Alene Elks Dance Band for many years and also provided musical instruments for local needy children.

He moved to Columbia in 1989.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Maurietta; and a sister, Mary Honomichl of Sun City West, Ariz.

Robert Fuher Spokane

Memorial service for Robert W. Fuher, 43, will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 16 at Foothills Community Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fuher, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Nov. 27.

He worked as a cement finisher in the construction industry.

Mr. Fuher is survived by two sisters, Debbie Stussi of Spokane and Dalene Gutowski of Bonner, Mont.; and his grandparents, Carl and Pauline Leaf of Spokane.

Ruth (Allen) Lawson Spokane

Memorial service for Ruth (Allen) Lawson, 86, was Saturday at Liberty Park United Methodist Church. A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Lawson died Nov. 10.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. At the age of 16 she began serving as president of a city-wide youth group. She was also a Sunday school teacher.

She had been a member of Liberty Park United Methodist Church since 1936 and was active in the Spokane Christian Coalition, the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church, Church Women United, the World Federation of Methodist Women, the Spokane Health Association and Spokane Social Hygiene Association, and the Goodwill Industries Auxiliary.

Mrs. Lawson was involved with the League of Women Voters, the Interstate Task Force on Human Relations, the National Institute Against Prejudice and Violence, and Spokane Sorosis Club. She served on the planning committees for Expo `74 and the American Association of University Women. From 1973 to 1983 she served as a UNICEF chair and was then the president of the Washington State Division of the United Nations Association.

Her husband, Kenneth, died in 1964.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Lawson of Hawaii; four daughters, Martha Demmer and Barbara Lawson, both of Spokane, Joan Lawson of Seattle and Ann Ross of Bellevue, Wash.; a brother, Leslie Allen; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Donna (Schalock) Bucher Ritzville, Wash.

Memorial service for Donna L. (Schalock) Bucher, 64, will be at 11 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Ritzville.

Mrs. Bucher, who was born in Reardan, Wash., died last Monday.

She graduated in 1954 from Edwall (Wash.) High School and attended Eastern Washington State College. She married Kent Bucher in 1955. They lived in Edwall until moving to Bremerton in 1958. In 1960 they moved to Lind, Wash., where she worked as a bus driver for the school district. She also had worked for Jim’s Market and the Golden Grain Restaurant. She and her husband later divorced.

She moved to Spokane in 1986 and graduated from Spokane Community College in 1988 with an associate’s degree in small business management.

Mrs. Bucher lived in Spokane and cared for her mother. In 1993 she moved to Ritzville.

She was a member of the Edwall Methodist Church and the Gritman Senior Center in Ritzville.

Survivors include her companion, Marvin Ebert of Edwall; four daughters, Kim Ram and Gayleen Bucher-Dart, both of Odessa, Wash., Danelle Bucher of Ritzville and Cindy Phillips of Moses Lake; a sister, Alvina Simpson of Edwall; and 10 grandchildren.

Prudence (Kyllo) Aune Pullman

Service for Prudence (Kyllo) Aune, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Selbu Lutheran Church near Lacrosse, Wash. Burial will follow at Selbu Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aune, who was born in Lacrosse died Wednesday.

She grew up on the family farm near Lacrosse and graduated from Hay (Wash.) High School.

She married Oscar Aune in 1940, and they farmed near Hay. She also was a homemaker.

Mrs. Aune and her husband moved into Lacrosse in 1984 and then to Colfax in 1996. She moved to the Bishop Place in Pullman in June.

Mrs. Aune was a member of Selbu Lutheran Church where she played the organ and piano. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Farm Club.

Her husband died in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Broderick of Colton, Wash.; three sisters, Erma and Ruth Kembel, both of Spokane, and Sylvia Kyllo of Dusty, Wash.; a brother, Tom Kyllo of Dusty; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Verna Keebler Spokane

Funeral Mass for Verna V. Keebler, 87, will be at 8 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Committal service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Moscow (Idaho) Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Moscow, Mrs. Keebler died Friday.

She worked as a supervisor for more than 30 years at Holsom and Snyder’s Bakeries.

Mrs. Keelber was a 62-year Spokane resident and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, the Madonna Auxiliary and the Bakers Union.

Her husband of 29 years, Leslie, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, LaVella Goodrich of Spokane; two brothers, Clarence Suddreth of Clarkston, Wash., and Elmer Suddreth of Lewiston; a sister, Helen Everson of Moscow; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Vincent Tayon Spokane

Memorial service for Vincent J. Tayon, 64, will be at 11 a.m. today at Otis Orchard Seventh-day Adventist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Missouri, Mr. Tayon died Thursday.

He was a Spokane resident for 40 years. He was also a musician.

Mr. Tayon served in the Navy for four years.

He was a foster grandparent at Audubon Park Elementary School and was a member of Otis Orchard Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Tayon of Airway Heights; a son, Michael Tayon Campbell of Phoenix; his mother, Loretta Tayon of Sunnyside, Wash.; two brothers, Joseph Tayon of Sunnyside and Donald Tayon of Grandview, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Sharon Patrick Spokane

Barbara Compogno Spokane

Eddy Rucker Selah, Wash.

Memorial services for Sharon Kay (Rucker) Patrick, 57, Eddy Trevice Rucker, 13, and Barbara Jardine Compogno, 39, was Thursday at Keith and Keith Funeral Home in Yakima. Eddy will be buried at the Pease Cemtery in Usk, Wash.

Mrs. Patrick, Mrs. Compogno and Eddy all died Nov. 23 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Moxee, Wash.

Mrs. Patrick was born in Pasco and worked as an interpreter for the hearing impaired.

She was a 21-year Spokane resident and a member of the Mending Fences Church in Spokane.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Mrs. Patrick is survived by a son, Frank Jardine of Spokane; her parents, Trevice and Esther Rucker; three sisters, Donna Ramirez and Lorie Layne, both of Yakima, and Rhonda Rothrock of Usk, Wash.; two brothers, Wayne Rucker of Yakima and Eddy Rucker of Selah, Wash.

Eddy was born in Spokane and his family recently moved to Selah. He was a student at Selah Intermediate School and played baseball and basketball.

He is survived by his parents, Eddy and Tina Rucker, two sisters, Summer and Jamie Rucker, and a brother, Justin Rucker, all of Selah; and his grandparents, Trevice and Esther Rucker of Yakima.

Mrs. Compogno, was born in San Fernando, Calif.

She was a 20-year Spokane resident and worked as a housekeeper.

Mrs. Compogno is survived by a daughter, Lucretia Jardine, and a brother, Frank Jardine, both of Spokane.

Clifton Mandt Spokane

Service for Clifton M. Mandt, 84, was Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial followed at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born in Northwood, N.D., Mr. Mandt died Nov. 24.

He married Hazel Tamke in 1943.

After graduating from college in Valley City, N.D., he worked for Nash Finch as a profit and loss accountant and credit manager. He later worked with Diamond International of Chicago.

In 1948 he began working in sales for Standard Oil in New Jersey.

Mr. Mandt and his family moved to Spokane in 1957. He later was co-owner of the Independent Paper Co. in downtown Spokane for 10 years.

Mr. Mandt was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the North Hill Masonic Lodge No. 210, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the El Katif Temple.

He also volunteered as a greeter at the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marilynn Franklin of Newman Lake, Mary Jo Mertens of Redmond, Wash., and Cathy Gauche of Houston; a brother, Milton Mandt of Apopka, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Jack Lovitt Rocky Gorge, Wash.

Service for Jack Ralph Lovitt, 63, was Thursday at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. The Neptune Society of Washington was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lovitt, who was born in Council, Idaho, died Nov. 24.

His family moved to Spokane when he was a child.

He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959.

In 1976 he married June McKinney.

Mr. Lovitt worked in the mobile home industry.

He moved to Mercer Island, Wash., in the early 1980s and worked in the sewer and maintenance department for the city. He retired in 1991 and returned to Spokane.

Mr. Lovitt and his wife moved to Rocky Gorge near Newport seven years ago.

Mr. Lovitt was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack Lovitt of Spokane; two daughters, Wendy Lovitt of Seattle and Denise Pinkham of Kent, Wash.; a sister, Shirley Roberts of Ventura, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Clara Gullickson Spokane

Memorial service for Clara Gullickson, 66, was Nov. 13 at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gullickson, who was born in Halliday, N.D., died Nov. 12.

She and her husband, O.T., lived in North Dakota and eastern Montana, until moving to Spokane in 1985.

Mrs. Gullickson was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years; a son, Greg Gullickson of Troy, Mich.; two daughters, Toni Williamson of Bothell, Wash., and Leslie Meyer of Kirkland, Wash.; four sisters and five grandchildren.

Richard Dinwoodie New Town, N.D.

Service for Richard “R.J.” Dinwoodie, 87, was Thursday at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in New Town. Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery in New Town.

Mr. Dinwoodie, who was born in Bottineau, N.D., died Nov. 25.

He grew up in McKenzie County, N.D., and in 1941 married Betty Meyers. They lived in Sanish, N.D., where he managed the Sanish Farmers Union Elevator. He also helped organize the Sanish Credit Union.

He and his family moved to the family farm in McKenzie County in 1945 and moved to a farm in New Town in 1953.

Mr. Dinwoodie and his wife moved to Spokane in 1976 and in 1999 moved back to New Town.

He was a member of the Edgewater Golf Club in New Town and the Spokane Manito Lion Clubs. He was chairman of the Blind Bowlers Committee and the National Blind Bowlers Tournament in Spokane.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Arnold of Edmonds, Wash.; a son, John Dinwoodie of Spokane; a brother, David Dinwoodie of Youngstown, Ohio; a sister, Nellie Goodall of New Town; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Loftus Spokane

Service for Dorothy Luella “Dorthea” (Bingham) Loftus, 75, was Friday at Myers Mortuary in Roy, Utah. Burial will be held at Washington Heights Memorial Park in Clinton, Utah.

A 12-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Loftus died Nov. 24. She was born in Clinton.

She married Gilbert Loftus in 1941. They solemnized their marriage in the Logan (Utah) Temple in 1948.

They lived in Wells, Nev., Turnersville, Texas, and Clinton.

Mrs. Loftus was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her husband died in 1964.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Good of Spokane and Diane Kimmer of Buxton, Ore.; two sons, Kenneth Loftus of Layton, Utah, and Douglas Loftus of Junction City, Kan.; five sisters, Margie Costich of Spokane, Lucille Larsen of Ogden, Utah, Glenna Buelo of Layton, Marilyn Barker of Clinton and Barbara Hussey of Las Vegas; a brother, Guy Bingham of Clinton; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ethel (Sawyer) Walters Spokane

Memorial service for Ethel (Sawyer) Akan Walters, 90, will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 at Hawthorne Manor Retirement Community. Private burial will be held in the mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walters, who was born in Marshall, Minn., died Nov. 24.

She was a teacher in Garrison, N.D., until she married Jay Akan in 1939. He died in 1988.

They moved to Spokane in 1946 and she taught at Willard and Linwood Elementary Schools, before retiring in 1972.

In 1992 she married Robert Walters.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sally Akan of Spokane, Alice Akan of Bronx, N.Y., and Betty Lundin of Erskine, Minn.; a stepson, Robert Walters Jr. of Lansdowne, Va.; three grandchildren and a greatgranddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the library at Willard Elementary School or the Twinlow Camp at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Ned Ingalls Spokane

Memorial service for Ned A. Ingalls, 94, will be held at a later date. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ingalls, who was born in Athol, S.D., died Nov. 20.

He married Marian Ward in 1933. They moved west in 1936 and lived in the Idaho towns of St. Maries and Harrison, and in Electric City, Wash., and Republic, Wash., before moving to Spokane 45 years ago.

Mr. Ingalls worked on line construction across the region with the Rural Electrification Administration, Public Utilities and the Bureau of Reclamation at Grand Coulee Dam. He retired from Bonneville Power Administration in Spokane.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

His wife died in 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Throne and Nancy Ingalls, and a son, Joe Ingalls, all of Spokane; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
