Yaks Topple Sasquatch
Hilary Berg scored a game-high 16 points and also led all rebounders with 11 to lead the Yakima Valley Yaks to a 70-58 victory over the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch in the championship game of the Everett women’s basketball tournament at Everett Community College.
Daniela Schroeder scored eight points to lead CCS (3-2), while Alice Stearns added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
Schroeder and Lindsay Weiss were named to the all-tournament team.
Kellie O’Neill scored a game-high 20 points and snagged nine rebounds to lead the Washington Huskies (3-2) to a 66-59 victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Swimming
The Washington State women’s swim team won the Patriot Invitational meet at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
The Cougars won 10 events and placed second in five others.
Taryn Ternent, a freshman, led the way with three individual victories and four relay wins. Ternent won the 100 freestyle in 51.85 seconds on Sunday. She also picked up individual wins in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle earlier in the three-day event.
Junior hockey
Jake Morisette had a goal and three assists to spark the visiting Beaver Valley Nite Hawks to a 5-3 victory over the Spokane Braves in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play.
Chris Wagner, Chris Tarkir and Matt Damskov scored for the Braves.
