2 Safeway Stores Offer Gas Station Service, Convenience Store Items

Two Safeway stores in Spokane have extended their services to include an on-site gas station.

Gas and other convenience items can be purchased at the Safeway store at 1616 W. Northwest Blvd., as well as the new Hillyard store, still under construction at the corner of Market and Garland.

Those stores are among seven Safeway stores in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska, to be equipped with gas stations.

As a part of the Safeway Club membership, club cardholders get 5 cents off of the posted price of gasoline.

Cars were lined up to use one of the 10 gas pumps last Friday during the grand opening the Northwest Boulevard gas station, which included a 10 cent discount on gas for the celebration.

“Business has been booming since we opened,” said Leo Hoerner, manager of the Northwest Boulevard gas station.

The gas stations, open 24 hours a day, also sell convenience store items such as oil, antifreeze, candy bars and tobacco products.

“It’s a convenience for people who come in to get groceries and want to stop as get gas,” said Robin Clark, manager of the Northwest Boulevard store.
