Cosmetology Students Garner High Honors

Students and instructors from Headmasters School of Hair Design in Coeur d’Alene recently earned top honors at the Inland Empire Cosmetology Association Competition held in Spokane last month.

Kiela Porath of Coeur d’Alene, won Best of Students at the competition, making this the second consecutive year the school has claimed the high title.

Pincurl and Fingerwaving: First place, Jenny Zahnow, Coeur d’Alene; second place, Kiela Porath; and third place, Serenity Bass, Coeur d’Alene.

Evening Makeup: Second place, Kiela Porath; and third place, Tina McMaster, Coeur d’Alene.

Ladies Hair Cutting: Sixth place, Kiela Porath.

Gents Hair Cutting: First place, Melissa Wagner, Spokane.

Evening Comb-out Style: First place, Kiela Porath; fourth place, Lis Mundy, Coeur d’Alene and Kurt Albrethsen, Coeur d’Alene.

Nail Art: Chelsea Kom, Post Falls.

Professionals, Evening Makeup: First place, Charlene Wicks, Coeur d’Alene.

Evening Comb-out Style: Second place, Charlene Wicks; and third place, Wendy Hersel, Coeur d’Alene.

Jeffrey Waggoner, a freshman at Whitman College in Walla Walla, has received the Garrett Scholarship for Men.

The Coeur d’Alene High School graduate was chosen to receive the freshman scholarship based on leadership and involvement in extracurriculur activities and high school academic achievement.

Recipients receive four-year, renewable grants based on demonstrated financial need and also get an expense-paid trip during their senior year to visit graduate schools and corporation headquarters on the East Coast.

He is the son of William and Gloria Waggoner of Coeur d’Alene.
