Spokane Bbb Devotes Night To The Seasons
The Spokane British Brass Band will celebrate the holidays Tuesday with a creative program called “Seasons of Brass.”
Director Mark Williams has been introducing audiences bit by bit over the past couple of years to the brass band literature in the British tradition, and always seems to have a nice new angle on how to present the music.
After Malcom Arnold’s “Fanfare for a Festival,” the first half of the concert takes a musical tour of the four seasons, beginning with winter.
Borrowing from the strings, the brass will have a go at Vivaldi’s famous “Winter.”
Spring comes with Delius’ “On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring,” which is followed by the Adagio from Katchaturian’s “Spartacus” to represent summer. “Autumn Leaves” announces the fall, as well as the intermission.
Having arrived once again at winter, the second half of the concert is devoted to seasonal and Christmas music. The brass band will play everything from Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz of the Flowers” to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Stops along the way include “Greensleeves,” “O Holy Night” and “The Little Drummer Boy.”
