Albertson’s Inc. said Thursday it has expanded its $500 million share buyback program by an additional $1 billion and announced that its chairman and chief executive officer, Gary G. Michael, will retire in June 2001.

A federal judge has lifted a back-to-work order imposed against United Airlines mechanics, who the airline accuses of staging a work slowdown during the holiday season as a way to pressure the company during contract negotiations.

Consumer electronics retailing giant Best Buy Co. has signed an agreement to acquire Musicland Stores Corp. for about $425 million. Musicland’s president is Jack Eugster, younger brother of Spokane City Councilman Steve Eugster.
