Group Studies Annexation To Liberty Lake

Liberty Lake has taken the first step in creating a new city. Now, residents are ready to hear about step two: annexation.

Homeowners who live south of Sprague Avenue, outside the boundaries of the new city, will hold a meeting Tuesday to learn the nitty-gritty on annexation. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District building, 22510 E. Mission.

Lance Whitney, president of the Liberty Lake Property Owners Association, said the group wants to learn about what it would take to annex to the new city and how they can protect the lake from more development during the process.

The community is invited.

Susan Winchell, director of the Spokane County office of the Boundary Review Board, will give a presentation and answer questions.

Other items on the agenda include an update from Liberty Lake Water and Sewer District officials on watershed protection and a report on the status of the group’s fight to stop the MacKenzie Bay Beach development.

Owner Rex Harder has appealed a Spokane County ruling that denying his plans for the subdivision. A hearing was held in Lincoln County Superior Court last week. The judge has not reached a decision.
