Gertrude D’Andrea Coeur d’Alene

Service for Gertrude Florence D’Andrea, 87, will be today at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. D’Andrea, who was born in Harrison, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She was a lifetime North Idaho resident and in 1937 married Tony D’Andrea.

Mrs. D’Andrea was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.

She enjoyed gardening.

Her husband died in 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria D’Andrea of Cataldo, Idaho; and a sister, Flora Seney of Moscow, Idaho.

Clyde Fuller Spokane

Service for Clyde J. Fuller, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Fuller died Tuesday.

He worked as a waiter for The Davenport Hotel in the 1930s and 1940s. He then worked at The Ridpath Hotel for 30 years. He retired as a maitre’d.

Two wives, Hazel and Mabel, preceded him in death.

Survivors include four children, Pat Fuller of Coeur d’Alene, Mike Fuller of Tumwater, Wash., Carolyn Reinhart of Tacoma and Dennis Fuller of Wilmington, N.C.; and three stepchildren, Dennis Grube of Spokane, Barbara Block of Graham, Wash., and Rick Grube of Bellingham.

Emily `Johnny’ Borders Kettle Falls, Wash.

Memorial service for Emily “Johnny” Borders, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Colville (Wash.) Eagles Lodge. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Republic, Wash., Mrs. Borders died Sunday.

She was a 45-year Kettle Falls resident and a homemaker.

Survivors include her companion of eight years, Gene Lawrence; three sons, Jess and Ron Borders, both of Kettle Falls, and Eugene Richardson of Summersville, Mo.; three sisters, Betty Green of Colville, Marion Clark of Kettle Falls and Yvonne West of Ione, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret French Spokane

Service for Margaret E. French, 105, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. French, who was born in England, died Wednesday.

She was an 80-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Her husband, Percy, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances Pitts, and two sisters, Dollie Scully and Chrissie Strange, all of Spokane; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Wilfrid `Bill’ Dahmen Spokane

Funeral Mass for Wilfrid N. “Bill” Dahmen, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 45-year Spokane resident, Mr. Dahmen died Nov. 25.

He was born in Uniontown, Wash., and in 1940 graduated from Colton (Wash.) High School.

From 1946 to 1955 he worked in drug stores in Uniontown, Pullman and Odessa, Wash.

Mr. Dahmen moved to Spokane in 1955.

He owned and operated the Elk Drug Store in Browne’s Addition until it closed in the mid-1990s.

Two wives, Catherine and Pat, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a stepson, Mike Anderson of Newport Beach, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Christine Nutley of Greenacres and Deanna Hamblin of Kent, Wash.; three brothers, Thomas and Samuel Dahmen, both of Spokane, and Stephen Dahmen of Uniontown; three sisters, Pauline Brown of Spokane, Maxine Jacobs of Uniontown and Anna Redinger of Moscow, Idaho; and five grandchildren.

Bert Coffman Spokane

Memorial service for Bert E. Coffman, 89, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Pear Tree Inn. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Granite, Idaho, Mr. Coffman died Wednesday.

He grew up in Palouse, Wash., and graduated from Palouse High School.

After graduation he moved to the Spokane area and worked as a car salesman at Appleway Motors.

Mr. Coffman served in the Army Air Force as a glider pilot instructor from 1942 to 1946.

After the military he returned to work for Appleway Motors and retired in 1981.

His wife of 59 years, Dorothy, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Donald Coffman of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Dollie (Burger) Knudtson Spokane

Service for Dollie E. (Burger) Knudtson, 83, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A 56-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Knudtson died Tuesday. She was born in Terry, Mont.

She married Irven Knudtson in 1936.

Mr. Knudtson was a certified nurses assistant in the health care industry.

Her husband died in April.

Survivors include a son, Keith Knudtson of Issaquah, Wash.; four daughters, Donna Funk, Margaret Cerenzia and Carol Gerrard, all of Spokane, and Linda Dahlgren of Kirkland, Wash.; a brother, Benny Burger of Mount Storm, W. Va.; two sisters, Ruby Knudtson of Gold Bar, Wash., and Cleo Poile of Pierre, S.D.; 28 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Robert Emacio Spokane

Memorial service for Robert L. “Bob” Emacio, 85, will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Wallace, Mr. Emacio died Tuesday.

He graduated in 1931 from Wallace High School.

Mr. Emacio received a stockbrokers license in 1937 and worked for E.J. Gibson Co. in Coeur d’Alene.

He moved to Spokane in 1940 and established a brokerage business in the Radio Central Building in downtown Spokane.

In 1941 he married Pauline Morrison.

Mr. Emacio enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 at the downtown armory. He served as assistant base commander in Ceylon, India, and was involved with supplying the European Theater with military supplies.

He returned to Spokane in 1946 and established R.L. Emacio Co. He later owned and operated the Madison Street Pigeon Hole Parking and Evergreen Parking Co.

Mr. Emacio served in the Air National Guard for 24 years. He retired in 1975 as a lieutenant colonel.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Spokane Country Club, Spokane Club and the Elks Lodge.

His wife died in 1991.

Survivors include two sons, John and Jim Emacio, both of Spokane; a daughter, Jeanne Wilson of Maple Valley, Wash.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William Zagelow Spokane

Service for William F.K. Zagelow, 90, will be at 11a.m. today at Heritage Church in Odessa, Wash. Burial will follow at the Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

A former Odessa resident, Mr. Zagelow died Wednesday. He was born in Odessa.

He married Vera Weber in 1937.

Mr. Zagelow farmed with his brother, Hugo, in Odessa until 1946.

Mr. Zagelow was a member of the first board of directors for the Odessa Fire Department and for the Odessa Memorial Hospital District. He was a member of the board of directors of Odessa Trading Co., for more than 20 years.

He and his wife moved to Spokane three years ago. They spent winter months in Arizona and California.

Mr. Zagelow was a charter member and past master of Odessa Grange. He was a deputy master of the State Grange, past master of the Odessa Masonic Lodge and past patron of the Odessa Order of Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Sage Shrine Club and English Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Zagelow of Walla Walla and Stephen Zagelow of Tumwater, Wash.; a daughter, Jane Ahrens of Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Surby Richland

Memorial service for Kenneth A. Surby, 51, will be at 1 p.m. today in the Cowles Auditorium at Whitworth College in Spokane. Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick is in charge of arrangements A seven-year Tri-Cities resident, Mr. Surby died Dec. 1. He was born in Sandpoint.

He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1967 and from Whitworth College in 1971.

Mr. Surby began teaching in Sandpoint. He later taught at Argonne Junior High and West Valley High School.

In 1981 he became an administrator and served as vice principal at Argonne Junior High and West Valley High. He then became the principal for high schools in Hanford, Wash., Kelso, Wash. and Lake Roosevelt, Wash. He recently became the principal at Kennewick High School.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Susan; a son, Scott Surby; a daughter, Heather Queen; his mother, Barbara Surby; two sisters, Dianne Fischer and Teresa Quiggle; and three granddaughters.

Lyle Hill Spokane

Visitation for Lyle J. Hill, 80, will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at Foothills Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries.

Mr. Hill, who was born in Tetonia, Idaho, died Wednesday.

During World War II he served in the Army.

He was a 26-year Spokane resident and worked as a truck driver.

Mr. Hill was a member and past commander of St. Maries Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1390.

Survivors include his wife, Inez; two daughters, Twila Hill of Spokane and Barbara Ross of Fernwood, Idaho; five sons, Kenneth and Robert Hill, both of Spokane, Reuben Hill of Fernwood, Earl Hill of Pasco and Joe Hill of Kent, Wash.; four sisters, Agnes Fenton, Geneva Sutton and Rosella Iverson, all of Pocatello, Idaho, and Eva Brill of Portland; 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Janice Mitchell Spokane

Private service will be held for Janice Lynne Mitchell, 43, at a later date. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Mitchell died Thursday from cancer.

She graduated in 1975 from North Central High School.

She worked for Thrifty Plumbing Supply for three years and later worked as a caregiver in the health care industry.

Survivors include her parents, Jim Halterman of Spokane and Joyce Giakovmis of Sagle, Idaho; and a sister, Nancy Dardenne of Seattle.
