Lands’ End Inc. has revised downward its earning expectations for the 2001 fiscal year, saying it expects them to be flat to somewhat below last year.

Technology giant IBM Corp. said Monday it will start selling computer chips fast enough to handle applications such as speech recognition and wireless video in the first quarter of 2001. Chipmaker Intel Corp., meanwhile, unveiled technology that can create chips five times faster than that.

Federal Railroad Administrator Jolene Molitoris will leave office Dec. 31. Molitoris became the first woman to lead the Federal Railroad Administration when she was named to the post in 1993.

Correction: The Reeves McDonald Mine pumped mine tailings into the Pend Oreille River when Doug Horswill worked there. The mine’s owner was incorrect in a business article Dec. 5.
