Ferris High took the sus- pense out early in the Saxons’ quest to give coach Wayne Gilman his 500th win.

The Saxons raced to a 27-7 lead after one quarter and rolled to the highest point total in Gilman’s 18 years at Ferris in a 105-50 win at North Central Tuesday night.

Gilman is 500-272 with a 3-0 start in his 32nd year of coaching. He spent nine years in Oregon and five in Moses Lake before starting at Ferris, where he is 335-109.

“I’m just thankful to be here for it,” said Gilman, who was diagnosed with cancer last January.

“The first year, I was just happy with 13 wins. Yes, tonight is special, but the journey is what I appreciate.”

Ferris’ previous Greater Spokane League high was a 103-48 win over Rogers in 1991.

The Saxons shot 59 percent from the field, knocking down nine 3-pointers, and hit 16 of 18 free throws.

Kirby Fike led 11 players in the scoring column with 18 points. Kevin Aronson had a career-high 16 off the bench with Erik Benzel and Sean Mallon adding 13.

Danny Garrett scored a career-high 13 for NC (1-3).

Ryan Simpson hit five 3-pointers and Andy Bloom four, both scoring 26 points, as the Bullpups defeated the Bears at CV.

Sophomore Derek Taylor had a career-high 24 points for the Bears.

Mead 56, Lewis and Clark 35

Brothers Eric and Brian Williams combined for 31 points and the Panthers buried the visiting Tigers from the foul line.

Mead hit 17 of 23 free throws to just 4 of 9 for LC.

The brothers, the sons of coach Glenn Williams, had career-highs, with Erik, a junior, scoring 16 and Bryan, a sophomore, adding 15.

Kyle Vessey led a balanced attack with 14 points as the Wildcats jumped to an early lead against the visiting Knights.

Jordan Bursch had 11 points, four assists and five rebounds, Joel Clark had four steals and Zach Bursch hit 3 of 5 3-pointers for Mt. Spokane.

Vessey hit 5 of 7 shots and Casey Franklin, who had 13 points, hit 6 of 9 for the Wildcats.
