Points Are Piling Up For Area Basketball Stars
Three of the area’s top career scorers were in action Monday when Lakeside’s girls defeated St. George’s in a non-league basketball game.
St. George’s seniors Katie DePonty (847 points) and Samantha Clarke (670), and Lakeside junior Jen Barcus (835) are among the top 15 or so career scorers in the area’s 2A, 1A and B leagues.
DePonty and Barcus are likely to become 1,000-point scorers before the season ends. Also on target to reach 1,000 this year are Sprague-Harrington senior Colin Floyd (972), Valley Christian junior Carli Smith (945), Garfield-Palouse senior Jason Fox (874) and Newport junior Rose Sauer (820).
Already in the 1,000-point club are five seniors: Adam Swinyard, Deer Park, 1,260; Drew Moser, St. George’s, 1,226; Cherie’ Dreger, Wilbur-Creston, 1,158; Brent Decker, Valley Christian, 1,053; and Josh Whitman, Ritzville, 1,020.
At least 14 other local players have eclipsed 500 career points.
Coaches with information on top scorers may call 459-5502 or send e-mail to chrisd@spokesman.com. Totals on any player with more than 400 points would be appreciated.
