Obituaries

Elmer Countryman Spokane

Visitation for Elmer T. Countryman, 93, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Countryman, who died Monday, was born in Gifford, Wash.

He was a plaster tender in the construction industry.

He was a member of First Church of the Open Bible and the Teamsters Union.

His wife of 71 years, Catherine, died in 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Countryman of Pocatello, Idaho, and Robert Countryman of Sequim, Wash.; a daughter, Arlene White of Spokane; three brothers, Robert Marr, Dick Silbey and Roxie Countryman; a sister, Mary Conner; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Robert Dawson Spokane

Vigil service for Robert J. Dawson, 58, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus hall. Private burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Dawson, who was born in Seattle, died Tuesday.

He graduated in 1962 from Rogers High School and attended Washington State University.

Mr. Dawson learned the plumbing and heating trade from his father and earned a journeyman plumbing license in 1962. He was co-owner and president of Dawson Bros. Mechanical Contractors. His company was involved in many large construction projects in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 44, past president of the Spokane-Inland Empire Chapter of the Mechanical Contractors Association and a former board member of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Washington. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Judy; two daughters, Kelly and Celene; three sons, Robert, John and Thomas; a brother, Donald; and one granddaughter.

Carl Davis Spokane

Service for Carl Davis, 69, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Peone Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. Davis, who was born in Columbus, Ind., died Monday.

He was a 33-year Spokane resident and had worked as a mechanic in the Air Force.

He was a member and commander of the Disabled American Veterans Post 6.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Reta; three sons, Roger and Dennis Davis, both of Spokane, and Michael Davis of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Zetta Allenberg of Spokane; a sister, Anna Rich of Columbus; and five grandchildren.

William Vogt Spokane

Visitation for William A. Vogt, 92, will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Vogt, who was born in Germany, died Tuesday. He was a 72-year Spokane resident and was a wheat farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Leona; two stepsons, Warren Burrows of Spokane and Martin Burrows of Miami; a stepdaughter, Janet Johnson of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and two sisters, Marta and Lisbet Vogt, both of Germany.

Paul Delmonica Spokane

Memorial service for Paul Delmonica, 84, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gardens on University retirement home. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Delmonica, who was born in Bridger, Mont., died Wednesday. He was a 32-year Spokane resident.

He was a farmer.

He had lived at the Gardens on University for the past five years.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; two daughters, Leona Ayers of Spokane and Donna Lackman of Windsor, Colo.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mildred (Parr) Iyall Spokane

Funeral Mass for Mildred M. (Parr) Iyall, 70, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Iyall, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Monday.

She graduated from Washington State College.

Mrs. Iyall was an elementary school teacher in Washington state for 48 years including 38 years in the Central Valley School District. She retired in 1998.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Dan; two brothers, William Parr of Worley and Herb Parr of Phoenix; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Patrick Colliton Spokane

Private memorial service for Patrick Colliton, 68, will be held at 9 a.m. today at the Jesuit House. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Colliton died Dec. 7.

He was a policeman for the city of Spokane.

Survivors include three daughters, Patti Clemons, Kay Pattison and Kristine Solomon; a son, Rick Colliton; a brother, Frank Colliton; a sister, Michelle Kutulas; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gonzaga Prep School.

John Foreman Lynden, Wash.

Service for John L. Foreman, 77, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Foreman, who was born in Trinidad, Colo., died Tuesday.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked for Burlington Northern Railroad.

He lived in Spokane until moving to Lynden three years ago.

He was a member of Hillyard Assembly of God Church and Mountain View Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; a daughter, Lynette Mason of Lynden; a sister, Mary of Odessa, Wash.; a brother, Jim Foreman of Spokane; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Clair `Pop’ Wells Spokane

Visitation for Clair L. “Pop” Wells, 69, will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Wells, who died Tuesday, was born in Baker, Mont. He was a 47-year Spokane resident.

He worked for Consolidated Freightways for 32 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 690.

Survivors include a son, Clinton Wells of Spokane; two daughters, Christine Ray of Centralia, Wash., and Marilyn Tonavanik of California; his former wife, Evelyn Tabert of Post Falls; two sisters, Edna Hailey of Glasgow, Mont., and Ionia Phebus of Baker; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Katherine Conrad Harrison, Idaho

Memorial service for Katherine E. Conrad, 34, will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at Rose’s Cafe in Harrison. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Conrad, who was born in Spokane, died Dec. 9.

She grew up in Coeur d’Alene and in 1984 married Ted Conrad. They worked together in the drywall construction business. She also worked for the Kodak Corp. in Colorado.

The couple settled in Harrison in 1991.

Survivors include her husband; two children, Dustin and Merinda Conrad, both at home; her parents, Daniel and Beverly Young of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Deanetta Speck of Colorado Springs; and her grandfather, William Young of Spokane.

Lillian Slaven Colville, Wash.

No services will be held for Lillian Mae Slaven, 98, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Slaven, who was born in Humansville, Mo., died Tuesday. She was a 62-year Spokane resident.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband preceded her in death.

There are no surviving family members.

Fern `Tiny’ Krause Spokane

Memorial service for Fern J. “Tiny” Krause, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.

Born in Wilbur, Wash., Mrs. Krause died Tuesday.

She graduated in 1933 from Wilbur High School and married Milton Krause in 1941.

Mrs. Krause was a homemaker and a member of Mission Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Her husband died in 1971.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Brockway of Spokane, and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Community Presbyterian Church or to the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Evelyn Jordan Redding, Calif.

Service for Evelyn M. Jordan, 89, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Jordan, who was born in Portland, died Dec. 8.

She graduated in 1930 from Walla Walla High School, and married Glen Irwin in 1931.

Her husband died in 1940.

She managed the Selective Service Office in Sandpoint during World War II.

In 1945 she married Patrick Jordan. They moved to Nevada and then to Northern California where they worked in the logging industry and motel business. They retired in 1976 and moved to Lake Pend Oreille. They moved to Spokane in 1978 and to Redding in 1996.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Glen Irwin of Anchorage, Alaska, and Michael Irwin of Redding; two brothers, George Oliver of Anchorage and Richard Oliver of Hoodsport, Wash.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Myron `Mike’ Covey St. Maries

Memorial service for Myron “Mike” Covey, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Maries Community Presbyterian Church. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Covey, who was born in St. Maries, died Monday.

He grew up in St. Maries and then worked with his father in Montana. In 1942 he married June Yabsley. They settled in St. Maries.

Mr. Covey was a sawyer in the timber industry. He moved to Spokane in 1958 and continued to work in the woods.

He and his wife later divorced and he returned to St. Maries in the early 1970s and worked as a bartender at area taverns until 1976.

He enjoyed bowling and cribbage.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Covey of Lacey, Wash., Kevin Covey of Marysville, Wash., Terry Covey of Las Vegas and Eddie Covey of Colville, Wash.; two daughters, Beverly Mustard and Tammy Cossette, both of Spokane; three sisters, Betty Irvine and Esther Humphrey, both of St. Maries, and Ellen Conrad of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.

DeWayne Klemmer Lind, Wash.

Memorial service for DeWayne L. Klemmer, 61, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind. Private graveside service will be at Lind Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Klemmer, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

He was raised in Lind and graduated from Lind High School in 1957.

He had worked for Caspers Grocery Store in Lind and the Othello (Wash.) Golf and Country Club. He also had worked as a dispatcher for the Milwaukee Railroad before opening Artistic Travel in Cheney.

Mr. Klemmer and his wife, Patricia, had lived in Lind since 1988.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years; six children; two brothers, Donald and Dennis Klemmer; a sister, Artis Brannon; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Norman Muse, Sr. Spokane

Service for Norman J. Muse, Sr., 76, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Morning Star Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Muse, who was born in New Orleans, died Monday.

He was a laborer and did iron work.

His wife preceded him in death.

There are no known surviving family members.
