Kettle Falls Wins On Free-Throw Binge
Free throws did in Newport as Kettle Falls, nailing 25 of 44 from the line, went to the stripe down the stretch to pull out a 63-58, double-overtime, non-league girls basketball win over the visiting Grizzlies on Monday night.
Aubri Azzarito sank 9 of 12 free throws in the two extra periods, including 4 of 4 in the second OT, as Kettle Falls improved to 6-1.
Azzarita led three double-figure scorers for the Bulldogs with 16 points. Rose Sauer scored 20 for Newport, which went to the line just 12 times in the game and made seven.
Newport missed a layin at the buzzer at the end of regulation that would have ended it, then got a 3-pointer from Amy Klein at the buzzer at the end of the first overtime to force the second OT.

Matt Almond hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to get Newport within a point with 2:10 to play before Payne finished up. Payne and Almond scored 20 points apiece.
