Churches Plan Services To Welcome New Year
With Christmas celebrations over and done, it’s time for churches to ring in the new year. Several North Side churches are planning special worship services and celebrations on New Year’s Eve.
A New Year’s Eve Mass will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 545 E. Providence. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal, will offer a New Year’s Eve worship service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The service will be preceded by a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Mead United Methodist Church will host a special worship service at 7 p.m. today called “Remembering the Holy Innocents.” It is a service of reflection on the period when King Herod ordered that all boy babies born in Bethlehem around the time of Jesus’ birth be killed.
The church also will host a family game night beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday. A New Year’s Eve worship service will follow at 11:30 p.m.
The church is located at 2515 E. Farwell Road.
Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7307 N. Nevada, will offer a New Year’s Eve worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The Unity Church of North Spokane will host a New Year’s Eve World Peace Meditation at 4 a.m. Sunday. The event will be held in the church’s office, located at 220 E. Wellesley.
Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt, will hold a special combined worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Sunday School classes will not be held.
