Foul Shots Help Keep Lakeside Perfect

Lakeside’s winning streak was on the line Saturday.

Good thing for the Eagles, they were also on the line.

Lakeside made 10 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Sunnyside 45-33 in the title game of the Eagles’ Christmas Tournament at Nine Mile Falls.

The Eagles, protecting a one-point lead after three quarters, improved to 8-0. Lakeside started the 1998-99 season 10-0.

Jen Barcus and Kati Tikker combined for 25 rebounds for the Eagles. Barcus, a junior, surpassed 900 points for her career.

Lizzy Mellor scored 14 of her season-high 22 in the first half and shot 9 of 12 from the floor to lead the Bulldogs past the Dragons in the consolation game.

Becky Van Tine also scored 22 for Colfax, with nine points in the fourth period and 9-for-15 shooting from the field. The Dragons’ Julie Witherspoon scored a season-high 21 on 8-for-15 shooting.

St. George’s lost back-to-back games for the first time in more than two years.
