Sfcc Goes Outdoors
Winter recreation
Cross country skiing, fly fishing, GPS navigation, and reading charts for water navigation are some of the pleasures and skills featured in upcoming outings sponsored by Spokane Falls Community College.
The Institute for Extended Learning is teaming with Hill’s Resort at Priest Lake for a cross country ski retreat on Jan. 27-28. Luxury food and accommodations will be combined with a nifty groomed trail system that branches out from the Priest Lake Golf Course.
Registration deadline is Jan. 5.
Local anglers from the Inland Empire Fly Fishing Club are pooling their expertise to conduct a six-session fly fishing class that starts Jan. 22. A separate fly-tying course also begins Jan. 22.
Hunters, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts can learn the basics of land navigation, from reading a map and using a compass to the use of GPS. The session runs evenings on Jan. 23 and 24, with a field session on Jan. 27.
An advanced section is scheduled in February.
Sailors will want to take a separate February session that zeroes in on water navigation. Info: 533-3770.
