New Barber Law Useless
From The Spokesman-Review, Dec. 19, 1914
To the editor of The Spokesman-Review:
Dr. Anderson’s proposed barber shop ordinance gives me the impression that the doctor evidently wants notoriety or a rakeoff from the towel supply companies. What he terms `common soap’ used in barber shops is the best made. Shaving powder is not satisfactory for barbers’ use, being intended for private use.
The barbers are doing all that can be done in regard to cleanliness and sanitary measures.
Dr. Anderson’s plan for using a fresh hair cloth on each patron, a number of towels in each massage and for sterilizing all implements after each patron would be out of the question and would make it necessary for barbers to raise their scale of prices to meet the extra expense and loss of time.
