Wathen `Harry’ York Rathdrum, Idaho
Memorial service for Wathen Harrison “Harry” York, 78, will be today at 3 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Celebration of life will follow at the chapel gathering center.
Mr. York, who was born in Missouri, died Thursday.
He graduated from high school in Benton, Mo., and then served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. York married Mary Hollingsworth and lived in California.
He was an auto body repairman most of his life, retiring in 1968.
He moved to Rathdrum in 1971 to be near family.
He was a member of the Rathdrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and was involved in woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patty Osborne of Texas, Sandra Kelly of California and Linda Rader of Rathdrum; a brother, Jewell York of Nebraska; a sister, Alcie Norma York of Nevada; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Thomas Orth Spokane
Funeral Mass for Thomas Joseph Orth will be at 10 a.m. today at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Orth died Wednesday. He was 64.
He was born in Missoula and in 1953 graduated from North Central High School.
He married Peggy Moore in 1955. They later divorced.
Mr. Orth worked as a warehouse supervisor at Carnation Dairy Co. for 38 years.
He served with the Navy Reserve for eight years and was a member of the Navy League.
Mr. Orth was a charter member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of Eagles Lodge 2, Teamsters Union Local 582 and the North Central reunion board.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry and Timothy Orth, both of Spokane, and Thomas Orth of Lynnwood, Wash.; three daughters, Monica Orth of Cheney and Terri Chott and Michelle Peterson, both of Yakima; a brother, George Orth Jr. of Spokane; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns.
Betty Roberson Sandpoint
Private service for Betty Arlene Roberson, 65, will be held. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roberson, who was born in Ellensburg, died Thursday.
She worked in apple packing sheds in Chelan, Wash., before owning various restaurants there.
In 1967 she married Glenn Roberson. They lived in Pomeroy, Wash., and owned a restaurant before retiring to Chelan.
Mrs. Roberson moved to Sandpoint in 1992 and remained active as a cook.
She was a member of the Sandpoint Assembly of God Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the American Legion Post and the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn; five children, Pat Bloom of Sandpoint, Jim Robertson of Moses Lake, Bonnie Roberson of Spokane, Sandra Nichols of Kent, Wash., and Harriet Voss of Brewster, Wash.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Claire Lund Spokane
Memorial service for Claire M. Lund, 87, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lund, who was born in Lacey, Wash., died Friday.
She received an education degree from Bellingham Normal School. Mrs. Lund taught elementary school in Western Washington.
In 1945 she moved to Spokane from Walla Walla.
Mrs. Lund and her husband, Weikko, operated Lund’s Valley Chicken Hatchery in the Spokane Valley.
She was a member of the Spokane Valley Women’s Club, the Greenacres Grange and the China Painting Association.
Her husband of 52 years died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Gary Lund of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Virginia Itter of Seattle; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joseph Crane Spokane
Memorial service for Joseph Crane, 57, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah.
Mr. Crane, who was born in Chewelah, died Thursday. He was a Spokane resident for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his mother, Clarice Crane of Kettle Falls, Wash.; and three brothers, Bill Crane of Kettle Falls, Jack Crane of Omak, Wash., and Tom Crane of Oakes, N.D.
David Ebaugh Spokane
Memorial gathering for David Lee Ebaugh, 52, will be at 3 p.m. today at Chic-A-Ria Restaurant. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Bakersfield, Calif., Mr. Ebaugh died Friday.
He served in the Army from 1966 to 1969.
He moved to Spokane in 1985 from Pinehurst, Idaho.
Mr. Ebaugh received a culinary degree from Spokane Community College in 1992.
He worked at the Ridpath Hotel and the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center. He had owned and operated an A&W Restaurant in Kellogg.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Ellen; two sons, Adam and Jim Ebaugh, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Hazel Collier Spokane
Visitation for Hazel L. Soles Collier, 78, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Collier, who died Saturday, was born in Herman, Minn.
She moved to Spokane in 1954 and was a waitress at The Bon Marche and Town and Country Restaurant. She retired in 1979.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Roy; three sons, Dennis and Ed Soles, both of Spokane, and Daryl Soles of Sandpoint; three stepdaughters, Peggy Nichols and Audrey Collier, both of Kennewick, and Peggy Gomeau of Oceanside, Calif.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Caroline Delaney Spokane
Memorial service Helen Caroline DeVane Delaney, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Mrs. Delaney, who was born in Ruby, Alaska, died Thursday.
She graduated from Gorham (Maine) State Teachers College and Columbia University in New York.
In 1937 she married Frank Delaney.
Mrs. Delaney was a teacher for the Seattle Public School District for 18 years.
She moved to Spokane in 1982.
Mrs. Delaney was a member of local United Nations organizations.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Frank Delaney of Spangle; a daughter, Carol Graham of Seattle; a brother, Harry DeVane of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and two granddaughters.
Irene Thompson Spokane
No service will be held for Irene I. Thompson, 95. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Copeland, Idaho, Mrs. Thompson died Thursday.
She graduated from Bonners Ferry (Idaho) High School and from Cheney Normal School.
In 1958 she was named queen of the Daughters of the Nile.
She helped start Bridlewood Stables Nursing Home in the early 1960s.
She was a 78-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker. She also had owned Corbin Park Cleaners.
She was a member of the General Federation of Women, the Spokane Woman’s Club and the Autistic Children’s Foundation.
Her husband preceded her in death.
There are no surviving family members.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to Hospice of Spokane.
Grace Bennett Spokane
Burial service for Grace Marie Bennett, 84, was Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bennett died Wednesday. She was born in Detroit.
She lived in Spokane for 71 years and w as a meat wrapper for Albertson’s.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Leslie; a daughter, Barbara Obde of Spokane; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ellis McDaniel Jr. Spokane
Service for Ellis Elmer McDaniel, 69, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. McDaniel, who was born in Covington, Ga., died last Tuesday.
He served in the Air Force during World War II.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry and was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 370.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a son, Bob McDaniel; two daughters, Sarah Knott and Mary McDaniel, both of Spokane; two brothers, Kenneth and Jody; two sisters, Nalene and Connie; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
