Alan Greenspan’s nomination to a fourth term as chairman of the Federal Reserve was approved by the Senate Banking Committee and sent to the full Senate.

General Motors Corp. plans to issue $15 billion in new shares of the stock that tracks the performance of its Hughes Electronics unit in a bid to increase the value of GM shares. GM denied it intends to spin off Hughes.
