Valborg `Vollie’ Kroll Spokane

Visitation for Valborg B. “Vollie” Kroll, 84, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Central Lutheran Church. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kroll, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Sunday.

She was a 61-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Mrs. Kroll was a member of Central Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and was a member of various church women’s clubs.

Her husband, Herbert, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Rodney Kroll, and a daughter, Jan Allen, both of Spokane; a brother, Connie LuVaas of Moscow; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Michelle Rumore Coeur d’Alene

Service for Michelle Joanna Rumore, 22, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Hayden, Idaho, with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Rumore, who was born in Glendale, Calif., died Monday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Interstate 90 near Post Falls.

She lived in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and in 1995 graduated from high school and moved to Coeur d’Alene.

Ms. Rumore attended Gonzaga University and North Idaho College. She had been employed by Post Falls attorney Scott Rose.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was involved in art, poetry, gardening and crafts.

Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Laurie Rumore of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, April Rumore of Coeur d’Alene; her boyfriend, Michael Howard of Highland Park, Ill.; and her grandparents, Don and Diane Johnson, and Geri Rumore, all of Glendale.

Orena Lane Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Orena M. Lane, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Lane, who was born in Gillette, Wyo., died Monday.

She graduated from high school in Gillette and married Earl Lane in 1938. They lived in Buffalo, Wyo. before settling in 1950 in the Bonners Ferry, Idaho, area.

They operated a dude ranch on the Moyie River near Eastport, Idaho, and owned several small businesses until retiring and moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1976. Mrs. Lane also had worked as a cook at Boundary Community Hospital.

Mrs. Lane was a past member of the Bonners Ferry Sheriff’s Posse Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Pythian Sisters and the Eagles Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1983.

Survivors include her companion of 12 years, Recil Berkenbile of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Earlene Riggins of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., and Delrene Daniels of Bonners Ferry; two sisters, Louise Adams of South Dakota and Myrtle Cullison of Illinois; a brother, Hans Schoenfield of Michigan; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Brenda Hunton Spokane

Memorial service for Brenda M. Hunton, 41, will be at 11 a.m. today at Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Hunton died Saturday.

She worked as an emergency medical technician for a short time and later worked as a phlebotomist at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Adam Hunton at home and Jon Hunton of Pullman; her parents, William and Barbara Hunton of Spokane; two brothers, Tom and William Hunton, and a sister, Theresa Gabel, all of Spokane; and her grandmother, Marguerite Hunton of Spokane.

Mary (Schafer) McCarthy Milwaukie, Ore.

Service for Mary Katharine (Schafer) McCarthy, 90, will be at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery. Stehn’s Milwaukie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McCarthy, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

She graduated from Cheney Normal School.

Mrs. McCarthy was a homemaker and a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Spokane.

She moved to Milwaukie three and a half years ago from Spokane.

Her husband, William, died in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick McCarthy of Spokane and William McCarthy of Milwaukie; a daughter, Anne Haight of Kennewick; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Marie Ahlers Spokane

Vigil service for Marie K. Ahlers, 88, will be at 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A 64-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Ahlers died Monday. She was born in Ferdinand, Idaho.

She was a registered nurse for more than 20 years. She also wrote health articles for The Senior Times.

In 1979 she was named Senior Citizen of the Inland Empire.

She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Her husband, Henry, died in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Pat Ahlers of Lynnwood, Wash.; a daughter, Margie Harmon of Spokane; a brother, Frank Staab of Lewiston; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George Hatch Spokane

Service for George F. Hatch, 75, will be held at a later date. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Centralia, Wash., Mr. Hatch died Monday.

He graduated from Brewster (Wash.) High School in 1942.

Mr. Hatch served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 and in the Air Force from 1946 to 1949 and again from 1954 to 1956.

He moved to the Spokane area in 1947 from the Brewster/Bridgeport, Wash., area.

In 1955 he married Marie Schinzel.

He was a foreman of buildings and bridges for Burlington Northern Railroad for 20 years. He retired in 1987.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Hatch of Spokane; two daughters, Nita Beasley of Spokane and Nadine Westfall of Sandpoint; a brother, Donald Hatch of Sunnyside, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Mary (Calistro) Zalik Spokane

Memorial service for Mary Frances (Calistro) Zalik, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Otis Orchards. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

An 82-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Zalik died Jan. 21. She was born in Milan, Wash.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy.

Mrs. Zalik worked at Sacred Heart Hospital and retired from Medical Service Corp.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley; a brother, John Calistro of Renton, Wash.; and six sisters, Julia Costello and Madeline Yeager, both of Spokane, Anita Pirello of Veradale, Mary Wallace of Greenacres, Josephine Maurer of Washington and Leona Harris of Post Falls.

Blanche Snyder Spokane

Memorial service for Blanche Agatha Snyder, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Barrackville, W. Va., Mrs. Snyder died Friday.

Her family moved west in 1924 and settled in the Fraser, Idaho, area in 1931.

She married Willard Snyder in 1935, and they lived in Orofino, Idaho. They moved to Lewiston in 1946 and to Spokane in 1958.

Mrs. Snyder was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Wesley, Larry and Gary Snyder, all of Spokane, and Keith Snyder of Port Orchard, Wash.; a daughter, Twila Wilbur of Dalton Gardens, Idaho; two sisters, Ann Granholm of Everett and Lee Cochrell of Bellevue, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Doris Hauser Kellogg

Memorial Mass for Doris Clare Hauser, 72, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hauser, who was born in Kellogg, died Monday.

She grew up and attended schools in Kellogg and was a lifetime Silver Valley resident.

Mrs. Hauser married Joseph Hauser in 1944. She worked as a clerk at the former Corner Drug Store in Kellogg for 10 years, and also was a clerk at Clothes Connection dress shop in Kellogg.

She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, the Women’s Benefit Association and was an exercise instructor for 12 years at the Kellogg Senior Center.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Joe Hauser Jr. of Liberty Lake and Mike Hauser of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Colleen Hicks of California and Frances Roper of Burley, Idaho; a sister, Fran Melson of Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Terry Brown of Portland; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Horn Spokane

Memorial service for Robert C. Horn, 76, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Studios. Private inurnment will be in St. John, Wash. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horn, who died Sunday, was born in Cheney.

He served with the Coast Guard during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

A 50-year Spokane resident, he owned and operated Crown Films since 1952, and was the producer of industrial and educational films.

He is survived by a brother, Bill Horn of Vernonia, Ore.

Clark Cox Spokane

Service for Clark T. Cox, 86, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Cox died Sunday. He was born in Joplin, Mo.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II with the 370th Bomb Squadron.

He was A 74-year Spokane County resident and farmed in the Deer Park area. He later owned Larry’s Tavern in Spokane and retired in 1979.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474, Disabled American Veterans Post 45, Police Guild, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge 2.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; a stepdaughter, Connie Follis of Spokane; three sisters, Lillian Moon, Lena Hill and Audrey Crawford, all of Spokane; three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Donald Wittorf Spokane

Graveside service for Donald Eugene Wittorf, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rosewood Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at South Gate Kingdom Hall. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wittorf, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Sunday.

His family moved to Waverly, Wash., and in 1939 they moved to Addy, Wash.

He graduated in 1947 from Jenkins High School in Chewelah.

Mr. Wittorf served in the Army from 1951 to 1953.

He moved to Spokane in 1982 from Colville, Wash.

Survivors include two brothers, Louis Wittorf of Colville and Winfred Wittorf of Bellevue, Wash.; and a sister, Alice Gingrich of Spokane.

Dolores Beach Cathlamet, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Dolores Aurelia (Hoelting) Beach will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church in Cathlamet. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beach, a former Spokane resident, died Monday. She was 80.

She was born in Lawrence, Neb., and graduated from high school in 1937.

Mrs. Beach received a teaching certificate and taught third grade.

She married Dwight Beach and they lived in Spokane for 25 years. In the mid-1970s they moved to Kelso, Wash. Her husband died in 1974.

Mrs. Beach moved to Cathlamet in 1993 and was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Beach is survived by two sons, Allen Beach of Ephrata, Wash., and Gary Beach of Puyallup, Wash.; six daughters, Diane Faulkner, Annette Beach and Patsy Brannon, all of Spokane, Paula Dahl of Battleground, Wash., and Elane Beach and Trine McGuire, both of Portland; a sister, Leona Bowen of Plainview, Minn.; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Virgil Warner Spokane

Private service for Virgil J. Warner, 76, will be held. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Warner died Monday.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Warner was a Realtor in the Spokane area.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Early Bird Club.

His wife of 48 years, Nancy, died in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Richard Warner of Boston; and a daughter, Wendy Warner of Spokane.
