Newlyweds Join Eastern Recruits List
Married on Dec. 18, Chris Felder and Robyn Sonju-Felder will transfer from Ricks Junior College to Eastern Washington University next fall and compete for the Eagles football and volleyball squads, respectively.
The Felders join three other football players as letter-of-intent signees announced by EWU on Thursday.
The additional players bring the total number of football recruits announced thus far to 20. They include All-Hawaii defensive back Roger Majit-Gorian, Spanaway Lake High School offensive lineman Paul Whatley and Phoenix College wide receiver David O’Hara.
Eastern coach Paul Wulff still expects to sign a quarterback. The Felders were members of Ricks College teams that were nationally-ranked and impressive winners. In their two years at the Rexburg, Idaho, school, the football and volleyball teams were a collective 92-27 for a winning percentage of .773.
Sonju-Felder was a National Junior College Athletic Association honorable mention All-America selection as she led the Vikings to a 38-13 record and a final No. 12 ranking.
Chris Felder was a 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end, who was used mostly in blocking situations.
Majit-Gorian was selected by the Honolulu Advertiser as one of the top 20 seniors in the state. He earned all-state and all-conference honors as a senior when he led his Kailua High School team in tackles with 142 and sacks with 18.
Whatley was a first-team All-South Puget Sound League South Division selection at offensive guard. He blocked for Martice Henderson, who rushed for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns in 1999.
O’Hara graduated from Cortez High School in Phoenix where he had an outstanding career. As a senior he set three school records by catching 61 passes for 1,188 yards and 17 touchdowns.
