Oliver J. Olson will celebrate his 100th birthday Feb. 15. He was born Feb. 15, 1900, in Clayton, Wash.

An open house in his honor will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at 100 S. Main, Spangle.

Olson served in the Navy during World War I from 1918 to 1919.

In 1924 he married Edna Rohweder. The couple were married 73 years before she died in 1997 at the age of 100.

While living in Vancouver, Wash., Olson molded terra cotta. When he and his wife moved to Spokane, he started his own business, working with plaster and stone to design molds for architects. He retired in 1977.

Olson has one sister, Ruby Hanson, and two nephews, Art Stelting and Gary Hanson, all of Spokane, and 10 great-grandnieces and nephews.

He attributes his long life to not smoking or drinking.
