Religious scholars speak

Seven internationally recognized theologians and religious authors will discuss “How I see God” for “God at 2000,” a free satellite-broadcast seminar Friday and next Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry.

Here is the schedule of featured speakers:

Friday

9 a.m.: Marcus Borg, author and professor of religion and culture at Oregon State University.

10:45 a.m.: Diana Eck, author and professor of comparative religions and Indian studies at Harvard University.

1:30 p.m.: Lawrence Kushner, author and Rabbi who has written 10 books on the Jewish mystical tradition.

3:15 p.m.: Joan Chittister, a Benedictine sister and author of 19 books.

Saturday

9 a.m.: Seyyed Hossein Nasr, author and professor of Islamic studies at George Washington University.

10:45 a.m.: Karen Armstrong, former Roman Catholic nun and author of 10 books.

1:30 p.m.: Desmond Tutu, South African Archbishop and Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

`The Eagle has Landed’

Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church will present a special seminar, “The Eagle has Landed: The Gospel According to John’s Prologue.”

Dale Bruner, a former Whitworth professor of religion, will be the featured speaker for the adult education winter seminar at Whitworth Presbyterian Church Feb. 25 and 26.

Bruner wll examine John 1:1-51 during the two-day event. The material covers how God works in Christ, in Christian workers and in outreach to others.The seminar sessions will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25 and 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 26.

Child care will be available if reservations are made before Friday. Call the church office at 466-0305. Other than for child care, no advance registration is required.
