MindSpring Enterprises is no more. On Friday, the company’s shareholders voted to approve the merger of the Internet company with Pasadena, Calif.-based EarthLink Networks. The new company has the EarthLink name. MindSpring subscribers, who number 1.5 million, will keep MindSpring addresses for e-mail and Web pages.
Star Cruises and Carnival Corp. took control of Norwegian Cruise Lines Friday, increasing their stake in parent company NCL Holding to nearly two-thirds of the shares and installing a new board of directors and a new chief executive.
7-Eleven Inc. president and chief executive Clark J. Matthews II will retire in April and be succeeded by chief operating officer James W. Keyes.
Hundreds of thousands of people hoping to win scholarships continued to jam a new Web site promising millions in free money for school, the company said Friday. FreeScholarships.com debuted Thursday, but the system was overloaded well into Friday by Web surfers eager to try their luck. The site is giving away a daily $10,000 prize, to be used for college, graduate, private or parochial schools.
