Mccain Pulls Even In Polls

Coming off a resounding victory in New Hampshire, John McCain has rallied from a 20-percentage point deficit in South Carolina and now is in statistical draw with George W. Bush, said a Time/CNN poll released Saturday.

Nationally, a Newsweek poll showed a major surge by McCain but found he still was far behind the Texas governor.

The Time/CNN survey was the fourth of the week to reflect a major bounce in South Carolina for McCain after Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary.

In January’s final Time/CNN South Carolina poll, Bush scored 52 percent support to 32 percent for McCain.

The latest poll found McCain the choice of 44 percent of likely Republican voters in the Feb. 19 primary, compared with Bush’s 40 percent. Given the poll’s 4.5 percent margin of error, the race is statistically even.
