‘Backstage Late Show’ Will Extend Into Next Week

The Hollywood Reporter

With David Letterman still recuperating from last month’s quintuple-bypass heart surgery and with this week’s packaging of big-name guests reminiscing about previous visits to “Late Show,” CBS has extended its “Backstage Late Show” stunt into next week.

First up Monday: Drew Barrymore, a frequent guest who contributed a classic moment to the “Late Show” archives when she wished Letterman a happy birthday by flashing naked breasts at the bemused Letterman while dancing on the top of his desk; and Ray Romano, star of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which is produced by Letterman’s WorldWide Pants.

Both will be interviewed on the West Coast by Letterman’s sidekick and musical director, Paul Shaffer, who has been in Los Angeles all week.

Tentatively booked for Tuesday, if the logistics can be worked out, is Robin Williams, who is scheduled to be in San Francisco, said “Late Show” Executive Producer Rob Burnett.

He said “Backstage” shows have been scheduled through Thursday but cautioned against turning that into a presumption that Letterman is expected back Feb. 18.

“We’re canceling shows the same way you release hotel rooms, one block at a time,” Burnett said.
