Catholic Appeal begins Sunday

The Catholic Diocese of Spokane is starting its annual Catholic Appeal on Sunday.

The fund drive, an annual event for the past 42 years, provides about 40 percent of the diocese’s yearly operating expenses. This year’s goal is $1.8 million.

The diocese runs more than 40 programs, including Catholic schools, family ministries and youth ministries. It also supports retired priests and those studying to become priests.

Last year’s effort involved 10,501 donors contributing $1,718,959.

There are 81 parishes in the Spokane Diocese, which stretches west to include Lincoln County, south to Walla Walla County and north to Pend Oreille County. (509-358-4280)
