Rev. Hilda Kellis, associate minister at Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard, Spokane.

Background: Kellis, 75, has been attending Unity since 1941. She began her work in the church as a secretary and worked her way up to minister’s assistant.

She has been a pastor since 1983 and was the church’s only minister for three years in the late 1980s. She is now semiretired.

Kellis attended the Unity School of Christianity. With her nearly 50 years of hands-on experience taken into account, she was allowed to complete an abbreviated course load and was officially ordained in 1990.

Personal: Kellis’ husband, Marvin, died in 1977. The couple adopted four children, two of whom have also died. Kellis has 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Quote: “I feel that we are all spiritual beings living in a spiritual world learning to navigate the physical world in that framework.”
