A rally in oil stocks and some bargain-hunting buoyed the Dow Jones industrials Tuesday. In a major turnaround from recent weeks, the strength in blue-chip stocks helped pull technology stocks out of a severe slump.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 198.25 to close at 10,718.09.

Analysts said the Dow was poised for a comeback after its 538.59-point drop last week.
