Kaiser, Union Mum On Talks
Kaiser Aluminum and the United Steelworkers adjourned labor negotiations Thursday afternoon, but the two sides deferred comment on the sessions until today .
The parties met in Pittsburgh for several days this week to continue bargaining a new labor contract for 2,900 Steelworkers, including 2,100 in Spokane. The dispute has left Steelworkers out of their jobs since the contract expired on Sept. 30, 1998.
Also, Kaiser has still not rescheduled a release of its quarterly and annual earnings. The original release date - Jan. 25 - was postponed because the company wanted to include insurance claims information that hadn’t been completed following last July’s plant explosion in Gramercy, La.
