Shareholders Meet Today
Modern Electric Water Company, which serves the Opportunity area, will have its annual shareholders meeting next Saturday.
The meeting will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Quality Inn Valley Suites, 8923 E. Mission.
All property owners in the Modern Electric service area are shareholders and can vote in the elections.
At the meeting, shareholders will elect a member to serve on the company’s board of directors.
Three candidates are running for the board position:
Candidate Rob Amsden is a local real estate developer who co-owns Village Square Realty, Inc.
Incumbent Doug Rider is a retired Spokane Valley fire chief.
Candidate Dave Thompson is the owner of Dave’s Bar and Grill.
Shareholders will also vote on whether to allow for pay increases for board members. Currently, board members meet monthly and are paid $100 per meeting. The proposed change would allow directors to increase this pay by up to $50 each meeting each year.
Modern Electric has 10,000 customers. Approximately 4,600 of those are shareholders.
All Modern Electric customers are welcome to attend the meeting but only shareholders can vote in the election.
