Bbb Denounces ‘Gifting’ Programs

From Staff

Contrary to what “gifting” program participants are telling recruits, the Better Business Bureau of the Inland Northwest does not endorse their activities.

Local BBB President Jan Quintrall is telling callers that the programs, like “Pit Stop” and “Gifting Club for Women,” are illegal pyramid schemes.

“What they’re saying is that, `We met with the Better Business Bureau, and now that they understand the gifting program they’re all for it,”’ said Quintrall. “And that is not the case. These programs are illegal, and when they fall apart, people at the top make the money and the rest of the people end up losing.”

In Idaho, the proliferation of the Pit Stop program has prompted Attorney General Al Lance to serve seven alleged participants with notices of violation and intent to sue for violations of the Consumer Protection Act.

Pyramid schemes, defined as programs in which a participant receives money primarily from the introduction of new people into the scheme, are illegal in Washington and Idaho.
