Carl Rasmussen Spangle

Memorial service for Carl Rasmussen, 81, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spangle. Spokane Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spangle resident, Mr.

Rasmussen died Sunday.

He graduated from Spangle High School in 1936.

Mr. Rasmussen worked as a building contractor and cabinetmaker from 1959 to 1982. He also operated Spangle Furniture.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Jim Rasmussen of Othello, Wash., and George and Brad Rasmussen, both of Portland; a daughter, Joyce Gregg of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; four brothers, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Richard Giesa Spokane

Memorial service for Richard Wayne Giesa, 81, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Giesa died Sunday.

He worked at Washington State University from 1963 to 1983. Mr. Giesa moved back to Spokane in 1985.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

His wife of 43 years, Jennie, died in 1985.

Survivors include his companion, Barbara Mason of Spokane; a son, Larry Giesa of Spokane; two daughters, Marilyn Jordan of Wilbur, Wash., and Carolyn Hatcher of Kent, Wash.; a brother, J.W. Giesa of Redmond, Wash.; and five granddaughters.

Mary Wiley Spokane

Memorial service for Mary Wiley, 78, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wiley died Feb. 12. She was born in Wapato, Wash.

She was a Spokane resident for more than 35 years and worked as a records clerk for an insurance company.

She was a member of the Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include a son, Kim Wiley of Federal Way, Wash.; two brothers, Elda and Creed Munson, both of Yakima; two sisters, Wilma Madden of Sunnyside, Wash., and Alfreda Sparkman of Indiana; and six grandchildren.

Theodore Mason Spokane

Private service will be held for Theodore M. Mason, 77. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mason died Tuesday. He was born in Marmarth, N.D.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He was a bricklayer and a member of the Brick Layers Union. He was a 52-year Spokane resident.

His wife of 49 years, Susie, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Gary Mason of Spokane; a daughter, Glenice McGuire of Spokane; his mother, Helen Mason; three brothers, Bill, Jack and Jerry Mason; a sister, Violet Anderson; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Willa Mae Anderson Moscow, Idaho

No service will be held for Willa Mae Anderson, 73, at her request. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Anderson, who was born in Palouse, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from high school in 1945 in Palouse and then attended Washington State University, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.

Mrs. Anderson married Guy Anderson in 1947. They lived in Moscow, where she graduated in 1950 from the University of Idaho with a degree in home economics.

She was active in UI affairs, including Faculty Wives, and AG College Wives, and had organized social orientations for new medical students entering the WAMI Program.

She was also a homemaker, Camp Fire leader, Cub Scout mother, Sunday School teacher and school aide and spent summers at Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Moscow and participated in bridge and golf.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Deborah Wallin of Moscow, Elesa Anderson of Stevensville, Mont., and Tamara Zamora of Wenatchee; a son, William Anderson of Pendleton, Ore.; two brothers, E.A. Redman of Palouse and Jack Redman of Beaverton, Ore.; a sister, Rachel Camp of Vancouver, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Jack Lewis Spokane

Vigil service for Jack Clinton Lewis, 80, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Lewis died Tuesday.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1937, and served in the Coast Guard during World War II as a signalman at the Makapu Beach Lighthouse in Hawaii.

He lived in Moscow, Idaho, for 17 years before moving back to Spokane more than 60 years ago.

Mr. Lewis worked as a pressman for Ace Printing, Green-Hughes Printing Company and Lawton Printing in Spokane, and at Washington State University.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Pressman’s Union, and was a volunteer for the American Diabetes Association.

His wife of 50 years, Mary Jane, died in 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Lewis of Portland and William Lewis of Springfield, Mass.; a brother, Robert Lewis of Elk Grove, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

LaVern `Butch’ Dickinson Rosalia, Wash.

Graveside service for LaVern “Butch” Dickinson, 54, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Spangle (Wash.) Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Dickinson died Sunday.

His family moved to Rosalia when he was a child.

He worked for area farmers and cattle ranchers, and also worked on the Painter’s Ranch in Rosalia for 35 years.

Survivors include five brothers, Terry Dickinson of Spokane, Gary Dickinson of Veradale, Donald Rhoades and Eugene Dickinson, both of Rosalia, and Dwayne Dickinson of Clarkston; and five sisters, Linda Turley of Spokane, Geraldine Sande of Deer Park, Charlotte Graham of Colbert, and Velma Lindhag and Thelma Dickinson, both of Rosalia.

Gerald Horejs Spokane

Memorial service for Gerald Norman David Horejs, 72, was Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Horejs, who was born in Buhl, Idaho, died Thursday.

He was raised in Twin Falls, Idaho.

IN 1946 he enlisted in the Navy and served for one year. He then served in the Army in Japan and was discharged in 1948.

He moved to Spokane in 1972 and worked at Edgecliff Hospital until it closed in 1976. He then worked as a stationary engineer and boilermaker at Sacred Heart Hospital for 21 years and retired in 1999.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Katherine; a daughter, Sylvia Hubbell; two brothers, Bud and Larry Horejs; a sister, Della May Blade; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Lorraine Perry Mead

Memorial service for Lorraine D. Perry, 51, will be at 6 p.m. today at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Colbert. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

An 18-year Mead resident, Mrs. Perry died Monday. She was born in Oakland, Calif.

She worked as a bartender in the Spokane area.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Compton; a son, Robert Rousey of Spokane; two daughters, Amanda Bartel of Mead and Sharene Rousey of Patterson, Calif.; a brother, Donald Perry of Sacramento, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Helvi Koski Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Helvi Marie Koski, 78, at her request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Mrs. Koski died Sunday.

She lived in Ironwood, Mich., and was a homemaker until moving to Coeur d’Alene 52 years ago.

Her husband, John, died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Swink of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Ruth Aspinwall of Seattle and Elaine Jarvi of Ironwood; and two grandsons.

Merrill Thompson Spokane

Graveside service for Merrill Lacy Thompson, 68, was last Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Thompson, who was born in Plaza, died Feb. 15.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He worked as a shipping clerk for Snyder’s Bakery for 33 years.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; two stepsons, Dennis Brittain of Spokane and Don Brittain of Snohomish, Wash.; two sisters, Genevieve Hansen of Spokane and Vivian Brooks of Reno; and five grandchildren.

Alice Lamphier Spokane

Burial service for Alice M. Lamphier, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Fowler United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lamphier, who was born in Spokane, died last Thursday.

She was a medical secretary and bookkeeper for the Rockwood Clinic and several doctors.

After her husband retired from the police department they moved to Soap Lake, Wash., where they owned an A&W restaurant.

Mrs. Lamphier was a member of Fowler United Methodist Church and the Spokane Retired Police and Wives Association.

Her husband of 28 years, David, preceded her in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Raymond Jeffries Elk

Memorial service for Raymond Lee Jeffries, 70, was Tuesday at Country Church of the Open Bible in Elk. Born in Salem, Ohio, Mr. Jeffries died Sunday.

He was a 40-year Spokane resident and worked as a meat cutter and a general laborer.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Elsie; four sons, David and John Jeffries, both of Spokane, Robbin Jeffries of Ellicott City, Md., and Kenneth Jeffries of Roy, Utah; three daughters, Laura Shryock and Terri Fitzpatrick, both of Spokane, and Julie Kaser of Coos Bay, Ore.; eight siblings, Bill, Edwin, Relda, Leland, Robert, James and Larry Jeffries and Mary Ellen Gerner; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Claribel Bailey Spokane

Memorial service and inurnment for Claribel Elmora Bailey, 100, will be held at at a later date at Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Morrow County, Ohio, Mrs. Bailey died Saturday.

Mrs. Bailey graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Ohio in Cincinnati in 1925. She worked as a nurse in California.

She was a Spokane resident for more than 40 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

Her husband, George, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a nephew, Kirk Rowlands of Berkeley, Calif.

John Muir Seven Bays, Wash.

Memorial service for John Porter Muir, 80, will be at 1 p.m. March 4 at the Washington Association of Wheat Growers in Ritzville, Wash. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Muir, who was born in Aberdeen, S.D., died Feb. 14.

He lived in Ritzville from 1941 to 1991, when he moved to Seven Bays.

Mr. Muir was a construction superintendent for a power plant.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; four sons, John, Mike, Mark and Chris Muir; a daughter, Mary; a brother, Robert; a sister, Margaret; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Madeline Clausen Spokane

Memorial service for Madeline E. Clausen, 87, will be at 10 a.m. March 4 in the Mausoleum at the Riverside Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clausen, who was born in Seattle, died Sunday.

In 1933 she married Herbert Clausen.

She was a 68-year Spokane resident, a homemaker and a member of the Sinto Senior Center.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Tom Clausen of Spokane; a daughter, Jane VanMeter of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; and two grandchildren.

William Morgan Nampa, Idaho

Service for William D. Morgan, 46, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Morgan, who was born in Lewiston died Sunday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School Mr. Morgan worked as a salesman for the automobile industry.

He lived in Spokane for 45 years before recently moving to Nampa.

Survivors include his fiance, Ann Howe of Nampa, Idaho; his mother, Valerie Norisada of Spokane; five brothers, Wallace Morgan of Seattle, and John, Jay, Jeff and Joey Norisada, all of Spokane; and three sisters, Valerie Morgan and Janis Norisada, both of Spokane, and Stephanie Richmond of Post Falls.
