About 300 Expected For Special Olympics

Athletes from around the state return to Sandpoint on Sunday for the opening ceremonies of the state 2000 Winter Games of the Special Olympics.

About 300 athletes are expected to participate in skiing and snowshoeing events at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. The events are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Opening ceremonies take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bonner County Fairgrounds. Sandpoint native Bill Wallace, a Special Olympics Idaho World Summer Games athlete, will emcee the ceremonies with Dave Gunter of Coldwater Creek.
