Swinyard Keeps Deer Park Alive

District 7 2A

Adam Swinyard scored 13 of his game-high 25 points in the pivotal third quarter and Deer Park went on to a boys District 7 2A loser-out basketball victory over Riverside at Mt. Spokane High on Friday night.

Swinyard’s third-period effort keyed a 20-9 run after No. 6 seed Riverside (5-16) played third-seeded Deer Park to a tie at 28 at the half.

Kevin Hersom had 13 points and seven rebounds to pace Riverside’s effort.

Deer Park takes on No. 2 seed Medical Lake today at 3:30 at Mt. Spokane as the tournament moves into double elimination.

Fred Rurangirwa scored a game-high 17 points and snared nine rebounds to spark the fourth-seeded Greyhounds (13-9) to a loser-out victory over the fifth-seeded Eagles (7-13).

Rurangirwa scored eight points in the second quarter to help Pullman rally from a two-point deficit to a 23-15 advantage at the half.

Jordan Bjork led Lakeside with 13 points.

Pullman takes on No. 1 Chewelah tonight at 8:45.

The Eagles shot 54 percent (25-46) from the field for the game and held the Stags scoreless in the fourth quarter en route to a loser-out victory at Mt. Spokane High.

Jen Barcus had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead Lakeside. The third-seeded Eagles (17-5) take on second-seeded Riverside today at 2 p.m. as the tournament moves to double elimination.

Jill Watts topped Deer Park (6-15) with 10 points.

Rose Sauer connected on 11 of 19 shots from the floor, including five 3-pointers, and finished with a game-high 30 to lead the fourth-seeded Grizzlies (9-12) to a loser-out win over the Cougars (11-10).

Newport hit 58 percent from the floor for the game, while holding Chewelah to 33 percent shooting.

Newport takes on top-seeded Pullman tonight at 7 in a double-elimination game.

Michelle Kinley had 11 points for the Cougars.
