WASHINGTON

Adams County Othello

Citizens will go to the polls Tuesday, and the presidential primary is only one of their concerns. Othello School District is seeking a $1.8 million maintenance and operations levy to fund items from building maintenance to special programs. The largest percentage of funds - $642,000 - would go to programs such as music, theater, debate, safety patrol and sports.

Ferry County Republic

The Republic Volunteer Fire Department recently honored its own. John D. Anderson was named Fireman of the Year, and Rob Slagle was chosen for the Chief’s Award. Service pins also were given to longtime members. Gary Anderson has been on the force for 30 years, while John Anderson has volunteered for 25 years; Pete Bolinger and Jim Harding have fought fires for 20 years each.

Grant County Moses Lake

Plans to build a morgue at Samaritan Hospital are not dead. Although many people believed cuts due to state Initiative 695 had put an end to the morgue, county commissioners say it still is part of the hospital’s expansion project. The morgue will be funded by the county coroner’s office at a cost of about $75,000. But construction will not begin for another 18 months. Until then, autopsies will continue to be done in Spokane or Wenatchee.

Lincoln County Davenport

The county treasurer’s office accepts most major credit cards for payments of property taxes. Treasurer Linda Fisher reminds all county residents that plastic is an option for payments, the first half of which are due April 30. Credit-card payments may be made only by calling Official Payments Corp., whose telephone number is printed on all county tax statements.

Pend Oreille County Newport

Aerocell, a company that manufactures airplane components for Boeing and Airbus, has given the go-ahead for a local plant. The company, headquartered in Marysville, Wash., has been setting up a Newport plant for several months. The factory will have 65,000 square feet and employ 40 people, with production slated to begin this summer.

Spokane County Deer Park

Deer Park Hospital and Ashley Gardens will hold an introductory seminar on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia on March 16 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the hospital conference room. The seminar will be free and open to the public. The Inland Northwest Alzheimer’s Association will provide information and other support for family members and caregivers after the seminar. Stevens County Colville

The manager of the Northeast Washington Fair says the annual event is in peril. Steve Heater says fallout from state Initiative 695 has cut funds from Stevens County in half. Although that money makes up only a small portion of the $152,000 overall budget, declining attendance and lack of community support are other problems. Heater says the fair apparently has been in trouble since 1993, when interest, along with money, began waning.

Whitman County Pullman

Washington State University’s wellness program, Campus to Community and intramural sports program will sponsor the third-annual Campus on the Run race March 25 at 9:30 a.m. Participation promotes community-building on campus, while entry fees will benefit the early learning services of Palouse Industries. Benewah County St.Maries

Bob Marzulli recently was chosen Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Marzulli has coached the American Legion baseball team since 1953 and has chaired the annual Christmas drive for 10 years. He taught at the high school for 20 years, works part time as a bus driver and is a St. Joe Valley Car Club member. Marzulli will be honored during the chamber’s annual banquet March 31.

Bonner County Sandpoint

Sarah Gatlin recently donated a 13-inch blond ponytail to Locks of Love, an organization that creates hair prostheses for children who are suffering long-term hair loss due to medical problems such as cancer or severe burns. Gatlin said she plans to grow and donate another ponytail. The organization requires hair to be at least 10 inches long.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

A lawyer with Idaho Legal Aid Services will meet today at the senior center with low-income residents who are having tenant-landlord conflicts or problems with government benefit programs such as welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security or county assistance. Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

Casey Krivor will be appointed Tuesday to the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill a volunteer position vacated by Vonnie Hutchison. Krivor works for Rocky Mountain Land Development Co. and has a degree in environmental science. Hutchison’s three-year term expired Jan. 31.

Latah County Moscow

A Latah County delegate-selection caucus is set for 7:30 p.m. March 7 at the county fairgrounds. Any Democrat who is a qualified voter may participate and help elect delegates to the state Democratic Party convention. For more information, call (208) 882-2428.

Shoshone County Kellogg

The Silver Valley chapter of Ducks Unlimited has scheduled its annual fund-raiser for April 8 at the Kellogg bowling alley. The event will include a banquet, sporting goods auction and prizes, according to Gene Turbak, chapter spokesman. The nonprofit organization works to improve wetlands such as Kilarney Lake; that project was completed in the 1980s. The Silver Valley chapter fund-raiser traditionally draws close to 100 sportsmen, and last year’s benefit raised about $9,300. Dinner tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Dick and Floyd’s. MONTANA

Lincoln County Libby

In the midst of a licensing dispute with the Montana Department of Revenue, the Libby Veterans of Foreign Wars post has won a court order allowing it to resume selling alcohol at its new hall. According to a recent District Court filing, a representative of the Revenue Department had required the organization to cease liquor sales in its new building because the license transfer had not been completed properly. But District Judge Michael Prezeau issued a temporary order allowing the post to sell alcohol pending the outcome of a March 13 hearing.
