Rainbows Best Ducks
Predrag Savovic scored 21 points to lead Hawaii over Oregon 66-63 Thursday night in the championship game of the Rainbow Classic men’s basketball tournament.
Neither team could pull away in the game that saw 17 lead changes and four ties.
The Rainbows (11-2) jumped out to an early 12-6 advantage, which was their biggest lead of the game, on Troy Ostler’s layup with 15:22 left in the first half. Hawaii went into halftime leading 32-28.
But the Ducks (8-2) fought back, led by A.D. Smith’s 29 points. He hit 11 of 17 shots from the field, 6 of 6 free throws and grabbed nine rebounds.
The teams traded baskets for most of the second half until Savovic, who was named the tournament’s most outstanding player, gave Hawaii the lead for good, 54-53, on two free throws with 6:35 left.
